Just to be a bit different...XT if going for 3-ring setup, SLX if going for double and bash.

Hmm - just had SLX and managed to kill it quite quickly. So this time I went for XT - which now also has a steel middle chainring.

To compare the two...

XT:

SLX:

SLX, cheaper, just as good and only fractionally heavier, looks better too 😀

I run XT but only 'cause I got a package deal with a full groupset.

IMHO the SLX looks a lot lot nicer, very XTR ish 8)

When my XT wears out, I'll be replacing it with an SLX

If everything else is XT spec, it make sense to get XT cranks to complete it.

slx cranks on ribble cycles are £60 minus bb or £8 more for double and bash version. Bargain if you ask me.

Well I prefer XT and will be sticking to them now! I do have spare SLX crank arms if I ever need them though.

I wouldn't say SLX is "better" - the only weakness of the XT (alloy middle ring) has now been addressed. Looking at the two side by side, the XT looks better finished. The weight difference is marginal but then I only paid slightly more for my 2010 XT chainset so IMO, it was worth it.

They're functionally interchangable so SLX as it's cheaper.

Cheers all, i just cant help thinking that the Souls here:

http://www.cotic.co.uk/product/soul

Would look better with SLX on, performance wise i dont think there is a lot in it and as already mentioned SLX is £60 cheaper than XT at Ribble, its not really about the money but £60 goes a long way.

Yeah but you're buff & well ghey! 😆

Get the SLX and spend the rest on bits that make more difference.

I've had SLX but XT came on my current bike. There is no functional difference so choose on price and looks (so SLX then).

xt looks alot nicer, slx looks like a cheap and tacky version of xtr, at least the xt has its own look going on 😆 xt all the way!

Just in case you're having trouble visualising it, here's some SLX on my black Soul:

To be honest I don't have a strong preference, but went for the SLX mainly on price. Can't fault it for performance or looks so far, too soon to tell about longevity though.

oh and if you use the code "TRIP7" you get an extra 7% off on top, £55 for an SLX crankset, hell at that price i've just bought one!

BB isn't included though, not that that bothers me, HOPE bb's all the way 😉

I have one of each and there is only 25g difference between right crank arms with 3 rings fitted, Hope this helps.

I've just bought XT but I needed a crank for tomorrow's ride. Had I had time I would have gone SLX.
