Currently getting bits together for lurcher 29 build question is what cranks. XTR double trail with 38 front ring or Sram XX with narrow Q factor but 39 front ring.

Reason I ask is on my 26 wheel bikes been running XTR race which has the narrow Q factor & really like it as I have narrow hips anyway

When I have posed this question to a few other people I get kinda blank response - WTF is Q factor etc so am I being precious over something unimportant & stick to correct size chain rings for 29 ?

Depends on the rider, i can notice the difference between the road bike and the mtb, but then i am the sort of rider who notices when they tweak there saddle 5mm and then spend the next week with a sore knee!

Important thing is keeping the chain line really, If you prefer a particular crank then run it.

I would maybe check with On-one that a narrow q-factor crank won't causes issues with chainstay clearance.
