Most sundays to end of September there is a train running from Exeter to the Dartmoor railway station where you can continue on the classic train to Meldon or do the cycleway to Lydford or on to Tavistock. Ideal for doing the preferred N-S Trans-Dartmoor without the hassle of cars. The station cafe is great and cheap, the train is £5 ret from Exeter, the scenery is great and perfect for a family outing as ideal for kids. Did it this weekend and managed to get a 7yr old to ride to Lydford Nat trust cafe and back.

I sneaked off for a cheeky tech descent on an unsuitable bike
