Cheapest I've seen it - 90 quid for an XT 10-51 cassette, and full SLX drivetrain for 225 or so.

I got all excited because I'd really like an XT drivetrain, but they've only got 175 cranks. All my other bikes are 170s and I'd rather keep them the same.

I was going for the SLX groupset but they told me that it was not 'boost'.... I thought 52mm was boost but they were not having it. Shame as its just what I need.

52mm is boost, but won’t work on all frames which is why 55mm also exists.

Merlin need to realise people want or need different length crank options.
Shimanos new chainlines are odd, 52mm for 142 and 148.

You can keep your existing crank, surely?

I think a 2x10 SLX crankset with XT 1x12 would look rubbish and be functionally sub-optimal.

Would Shimano 12 speed drivetrain work with AXS shifter and mech?

@martinhutch

Thanks for that - perfect timing 🙂

P.s. slightly surprised it includes bottom bracket too - doesn’t always seem to.

Anyway, cheapest I’ve seen it by far so ordered pdq!

Is there any way of knowing if my frame will work with 52mm or if I need 55mm. Is it a case of buying and finding out it doesn't work (or does...?)

Oddly, XTR lists 52mm chain line on the M9100 and M9120 and claim it's suitable for 142 and 148 OLD.

However, XT M8100 is 52mm chain line and M8120 is 55mm chain line.

So, how are you supposed to know which chain line is actually best with a Boost hub?

Cheers, xt ordered to replaced my 2x9 set up......

52 is supposedly boost and non boost. 55 is boost but for frames that need more clearance or plus tyres.

Sram boost is 52 AFAIK.

arrived but the buggers sent me an SLX cassette!

All OEM too as expected.

Offer still on if you want to get a drivetrain.

So - XT shiter, mech chain and cassette is 303.76 Euro at Merlin, including the 10% discount

R2-bike.com are still 50 euros cheaper.

I've just realised it wouldn't have been any good for me anyway because I'd need a micro spline rear hub. Aren't standards great?

After reading this I checked my delivery (that came two weeks late!), the packaging said XT....
Today, I opened the packaging to fit the cassette - it's SLX.

Strongly advise anyone else who ordered this bundle to check what they have been sent more carefully than I did. The other bits are XT. I have written to Merlin to see what they can do about it.

I realise this is very much a first world problem in the scheme of things - just annoying.

Well Merlin were very good about my incorrect cassette and the replacement XT one came by return of post today. Good customer service in difficult times much appreciated.
