I think everyone will admit, they knew they were being cheeky with the extra orders. We got 50% off £40 for things nearly everyone said they didn't need. Result.
Those that split pairs of things, such as tyres or brakes, over two orders might be a bit miffed!
Im guessing a selected few got the email, a budget was set aside for those said emails and the uptake, also guessing the budget doesn't allow for a forum to get there orders in so i tend to agree that at some point the line had to be drawn.
On a side note anyone got a wiggle voucher? need to buy some xt brakes, was going to buy at evans but my code wouldn't work 😛
Those that split pairs of things, such as tyres or brakes, over two orders might be a bit miffed!
Indeed. Almost did this with my road tyres (was tempted to throw a couple of tubes into each order)
Glad I didnt now!
Mudshark - only just seen this thread but thats exactly what I did, Going to end up with a front maxxis and a front schwalbe but no rear maxxis and no rear schwalbe. Hopefully they havnt been dispatched yet and I can cancel the order. Karma I guess - looked to good to be true 🙄 😆
Looking at the order numbers on my orders, it looks like about 1000 orders were put in between 5 and 7, that would be £20,000 worth of sales (minimum), on what they would usually sell for £40,000! Thats a pretty substantial loss
That might not be a loss - just a reduced margin.
Gutted really, would have had an XT 10 sp rear mech for £20.
Then again my first order was something I actually needed!
Agree with Del up there really. And Evans have come on here to explain themselves which they didn't need to do. Looking forward to receiving my rear light I don't *really* need.
Maybe they will re-introduce the code when they are sorted after New Year for one use only once IT are back in.
1000 orders were put in between 5 and
Good work guys!
It's not really a loss though as most of those orders wouldn't be made. It just depends on the cost price of the items ordered. Also, many of the orders are likely to be for over the minimum amount.
And Evans have come on here to explain themselves which they didn't need to do.
Kinda important for damage limitation!
That might not be a loss - just a reduced margin.
Well, I know roughly what best trade is on the items I bought, and I'm pretty sure I know whether they made a profit or loss on my £41.02 minus discount(with free shipping) order 😈
I don't think anyone has been cheeky, crc do these types of deals all the time, and allow as many repeat orders as you like.
Poor Evans, My Heart bleeds for them...
And people are still being mean even after they went to all the trouble of posting a polite '****-Off' on an internet forum to all those who saw fit to exploit their cock up.
They're a business, they clearly thought they'd tip a few people over the edge from Umming and Arrring to just buying that ~£40 something they didn't really need as it was only going to cost them ~£20, it's stock clearance time folks...
Their own lack of judgement when cobbling together the offer is not the fault of the customers, I say Ream Them!
From above:
CANCELLATION BY EVANS CYCLES
15.
We reserve the right to cancel the contract between us if:(a) we have insufficient stock to deliver the Goods you have ordered;
(b) the delivery service provider does not deliver to your area
(c) one or more of the Goods you ordered was listed at an incorrect price due to a typographical error or an error in the pricing information received by us from our suppliers; or
(d) we have reason to suspect that there is a risk of a fraudulent transaction...
I assume they're citing either (c) or (d);
It can't be (c) Evans would never under-price an item.
So anyone who used the code for more than one purchase is a fraudster now? Will there be any prosecutions?
If a code was only intended for single use by any customer, could that functionality not be incorporated into the website on a 'once per account' basis?
It should not have gotten as far as people placing and paying for orders if they were just going to cancel them...
Or is it really just a cock-up on Evans part? (Rhetorical question)
I don't understand all this defense of an online outfit, it's hardly like Evans are some sort of benevolent organisation...

Assuming every order used the voucher code, which is unlikely I would think.
do get some perspective
it's a thread about a mail order discount code, were you expecting us to be discussing the Middle East?
I'm not miffed, I didnt even bother following through on my first basket as there was nothing I really wanted/needed let alone make multiple orders, but the fact is Evans made some simple errors and people trying to use a code multiple times (when the presented terms don't restrict it) isn't abuse, it's common sense.
And Evans have come on here to explain themselves which they didn't need to do.
As mudshark says yes they do to limit the bad press from disgruntled customers who had orders cancelled. Evans have a mediocre reputation for customer service as it is so they'd do well to salvage something from this.

Pretty basic stuff, every other website manages it.
TBH I'll be happy if my first order turns up, needed a pair of winter gloves and if I get them half price then great.
No sympathy for evans, it was an over-generous offer that clearly hadn't been thought through properly but I'm not going to cry over missing out on a couple of bargains. I'm more annoyed at myself for not using my girlfriends account to place the second order, it was actually for her anyway.
Just a quick note to say that we'll only be refunding any 2nd/3rd/4th etc. orders using the code - the first order will of course go through
That's a bit of an inconvenience.
I'll have to get Mrs MTG and her daughter to open accounts with Evans now. 😉
Oh, and her son.
And the neighbours.
Jesus wept, loads of people got a £20 discount that they didn't otherwise know about, *and* got the offer pulled to prevent the rest of us using it legitimately, and *still* complain as if they're being individually and gratuitously shafted by The Man.
There really are some miserable self-serving holier-than-thou bumcandles on here.
😆
So you were too late then Bez? Sorry about that. Anyway, cheer up - FTSE's flying today.
"bumcandle" ? Did you just make that word up ?
"So you were too late then Bez? Sorry about that."
I was, yes. But somehow I still managed to order the overshoes I wanted without needing to come on here all Disgusted-of-Tunbridge-Wells, sticking printouts of T&Cs on pitchforks and setting light to them whilst chanting "ream them" (ream them? - really? - not exactly a glasshouse from which you can comfortably throw stones at their customer service, is it?)
😉
Bumcandle - variation of arsecandle, euphemism for a dangling length of fecal matter.
What Bez says
Twunts
And no, I wasn't too late, nothing I wanted
Bumcandle - variation of arsecandle, euphemism for a dangling length of fecal matter
My dog gets those. Didn't know they had a name.
Only January the 2nd and I've learned something already this year.
tbh going by those terms and conditions they should honor the orders! its a cock up on there part and there isn't a directly related T&C's clause which by trading standards means that this should be honored!
It's a simple formula, just glue a rude word and a non-rude one together and then decide what it means.
Titcurtains, knobcobbler, jizzfridge, cockputty, smegbucket - knock yourself out.
"tbh going by those terms and conditions they should honor the orders! its a cock up on there part and there isn't a directly related T&C's clause which by trading standards means that this should be honored!"
Not at all. Try reading the T&Cs. The recently quoted parts of the T&Cs (which I suspect are the only ones you're looking at) are for cancellation of contract. They're only applicable once a contract has been created, and if you read the clause that was posted three pages ago (and is bog standard trading law anyway) the placement of an order does not constitute a contract:
"7. After placing an order, you will receive an email from us acknowledging that we have received your order for the Goods, and the delivery services you have requested from the delivery service provider. Please note that this does not mean that your order has been accepted. Your order constitutes an offer to Evans Cycles to buy Goods. All orders are subject to acceptance by us, and we will confirm such acceptance to you by sending you an email that confirms that the Goods have been dispatched by the delivery service provider (the "Dispatch Confirmation"). The contract between you and Evans Cycles will only be formed when we send you the Dispatch Confirmation."
The text accompanyng the voucher seems to clearly state that it's valid for "your next purchase over £40" and that it's not valid for gift vouchers.
Which means the people whining like it's some sort of human rights issue don't seem to have a leg to stand on in any respect whatsoever.
but doesn't payment of the goods (them taking the payment) constitute that you have entered the contract...
also the voucher states thats its valid for " your next purchase over £40" and that it's not valid for gift vouchers....
well isn't every purchase your next purchase did the text accumpanying the voucher say that it was valid only once?
hey am not even that bothered as i missed out
From 20 quid off at Evans to Jizzfridge in 8 pages-good work one and all 🙂
Wow, this has turned into a proper bun-fight hasn't it.
The ironic thing is that as 'OP' of this thread, I never actually used the code myself. I added a couple of things to my basket to purchase then posted the code on here while I pondered whether there was anything else I needed while I was at it. Then got called away by the missus for something, forgot all about it for a couple of hours and by the time I came back it was all over.
#FML #FWP etc. etc. 😕
Oh yeah... moral of the story - don't share 😆
Even though the code is dead this thread keeps on giving.. 😀
Can we adopt the word jizzfridge to mean exactly what has happened here?
"This thread has totally jizzfridged."
I think that's an apt description...
I didn't need anything so didn't exploit the code/ethics.
Just a quick note to say that we'll only be refunding any 2nd/3rd/4th etc. orders using the code - the first order will of course go through
Seems pretty fair to me.
Glad I pushed the button rather than deliberating like with the Oakley saga.
Just been speaking to Shami Chakrabati and it seems she's keen to take this one on as the next major human rights campaign for Liberty, so fingers crossed guys.
Jizzfridge n. The state of an offer that has collapsed after an attack of locusts (qv). (eg "didn't work for me, I think it's a jizzfridge")
Jizzfridge vi. To become a jizzfridge. (eg "don't bother, it's jizzfridged")
Fridgetit n. One who complains unreasonably about an offer that has jizzfridged.
...?
ooh! ooh! can it be a verb too? 😆
conjungate the verb to jizzfridge:
i jizzfridge
you jizzfridge
he/she jizzfridges... and so on
Soon the locusts will be demanding that Evans defrost the Jizzfridge!
Anyone thinking a shop should lose thousands of pounds they don't have to due to an oversight is truly just an average member of the general public and probably finds deal or no deal a mental challenge.
Well I've just had a lovely email from Evans saying that due to "technical reasons" the code no longer worked on their website but if I would care to print out the attached voucher and take it into any store, the same offer would apply, even on sale items.
So clearly not a mistake by them (other than not coding their website to decline multiple orders). Might just pop into my local Evans now...
Will you try printing out several copies?
if I would care to print out the attached voucher and take it into any store, the same offer would apply, even on sale items.
Link to the voucher for everyone to photocopy and use please...
I expect jizzfridge to appear in das krapital very soon!.
It never fails to amaze me, how you only ever find out how much of a **** some people are when there is cash involved.
Link to the voucher for everyone to photocopy and use please...
