Looking for some ideas for protecting a carbon mountain bike frame.
Last year a rock kicked off my front wheel and smashed my bottom bracket. Strikes me that the down tube is particularly vulnerable to this sort of thing.
A strategically placed crud-catcher has prevented a few knocks but was wondering if anyone has some good tips...
helitape is a must for carbon frames imo
Thanks Lotus777. Where are the best places to put it?
An old DH tyre trimmed and zip-tied to the lower bit of the downtube/BB shell will help against rocks being flicked up. Looks a bit naff though.
Santa cruz sell a frame protector fit that area, quite thick with a carbon finish
Might be worth a look
Ibis do a guard that fits on their down tubes. The latest SL's and HD's have a finish that some tape doesn't stick to very well and so it makes protecting them very difficult indeed.
i bought some 3M tape from here

not cheap but its good tape and comes with soapy solution to help with fitting.
i pretty much covered the whole frame with it, a timely process but can now rest assured that most battle scars will not be permanent.
