If I've counted correctly this should be a new page. Incidentally has anyone considered the effect of split vs non-split crown races?
Well done sas have a cup of tea and pull up a chair.

Sorry, its past my bed time.
SAS, no but I think we should.

Oh, bog off.
Excellent response!
Spilt crown races should be mopped up immediately using the nearest magic moggie to hand. Fact.
HOLY EPIC THREAD RESURECTION BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I heard about the database problems this was the first thread I thought of. You should always have a backup crown race.
How in the name of the Sweet Little Baby Jesus did this thread get to such an incredible length?
Because it is an important question that needs a proper in-depth analysis and some rigerous scientific study. And some celery.
I'm guessing its an ongoing study then and as yet no proper conclusion has been yet reached?
We've been close a few times. I thought I had the definitive answer until someone mentioned 1.5 heasets and now I'm having to have a rethink. Ive not even started work on the split-races yet.
I'm hoping to get funding for a phd looking into this properly, but just doing it on an amatuer basis around work and riding at present.
He's a pretty boy (the tapir).
There is some funding available I believe andrewh for headset effects on schizophrenic racing cats, but the tapir angle from boxelder is entirely new and I agree we should re-think our efforts. We should see if it has already been researched or alternatively just point out the dangers of celery in a high-pitched squeaky voice to an unsuspecting public?
Above all, we must keep in mind that mackem must be on the edge of his seat waiting for an answer. We cannot let him down.
Do tapirs eat celery?
Do tapirs eat celery?
No. It's thought to spoil their lush looks.

[s]You can get the correct tool from CRC.[/s]
Take your tapir, headset that you got cheap off Wiggle along with the biscuits that arrived in your Ocado delivery and SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BIKE SHOP!!!!1!!!
Can't believe this thread is still alive.
I have to say that this question keeps me awake at night!!
no threads in a no threadset headset
That tapeworm would keep you awake at night. 😐
schizophrenic racing cats V's Celery fed Tapirs. Is that on sky?
Why has that man/woman got lightning bolts coming out of his / her lungs? Is it due to low-level celery-induced vampire tapirs? Would seem to be the most obvious answer. (The ones further down are obviously just wind).
I hate to change the subject, but has anyone else noticed that this thread's first aniversary has slipped by un-noticed?

Here's to many more!
Anyway, back to tapirs and lightning bolts in lungs, we need an answer to the question!
Don't like to mention this but....
Dragging this thread back to the topic I have just received a new frame 🙂 with a new headset. This is the first integrated headset I haveever had, and it doesn't have a crown race. Have I found the elusive crown raceless headset or is there a part missing? (Pronghorn PR6-XC HT and own-brand headset FWIW).
andrewh - this thread is likely to implode and destroy the internet now.
and it will be all your fault.
I just asked a perfectly sensible question!
No doubt that's what's Mackem would say too....
you sure there's no crown race? have you got a picture of what they've supplied? or a link?
I'll get a photo and post it up. There is a sort of washer thingy which goes under the bottom bearings but it's just a seal, not a crown race.
somke useful info here;

If the bearings are a sealed unit, the washer is what replaces a conventional crown race and the bearings just sit on this.
PS I think I have discovered a long forgotten SPLIT UPPER RACE PINCH BOLT DESIGN THREADED headset. Should I register its genealogy somewhere or lose it again for posterity, marking it as extinct?
what he said ^
it's called a 'fork sleeve' in the link.
I once had TWO yes TWO crown races supplied with a headset.
Also had a kitkat that was pure chocolate and zero wafer
This is all the bits that came with it, minus the cups which are in the frame and a pain to get out. Bottom bits at the top of the pic and top bits at the bottom of the pic 😉
Cups in frame.
Plastic washer from the bottom. Definately not a crown race.

Assembled.

?
I bought some forks from the classifieds, which arrived with the crown race fitted.
So I now have a spare crown race.
Any ideas what else I could use it for...?
obvious, but i'd suggest a cock ring
Don't know much about headsets to be honest, but do you think it's ok to let these two babysit my 3 kids tonight, they only charge a fiver an hour - which seems resonable
Don't think it is a good idea, see http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/39/contents
May have to pay them £5.93 as they do look over 21.
if they are self employed they dont need to work for the minimum wage but an employer MUST pay it
HTH
I think we've got a nuclear power vs crown race race for longest thread. Neck and neck at the moment with 1125 posts.
