I need to post a rear shock within the UK. I don't want Royal Mail confiscating it as a 'pressurised container' (I've read that thread). Struggling for clarity from other couriers/services. It shouldn't be this hard!
Who can I use that will deliver my shock - insured and tracked (or signed for) within the UK, without any issues over the contents?
I sent recently with Evri... I assume it's got there lol. I didn't specify any details on contents though
J-tech currently have my fork and they use dpd for drop off & collection.
Last few services I have used DPD.
I'd ruled out DPD due to cost, but given that RM and Evri both specifically prohibit 'pressurised containers' I'm not sure there's much option:
RM £8.45 next day before 1pm, £500 insured
Evri £16.15 1-2 days, £300 insured
DPD £21.47 1-2 days, £300 insured
I've always used RM special delivery around £11. Declared as bike parts and never had an issue.
I sent a shock to TF Tuned recently using UPS. It got there fine. They returned it by DPD, ditto. I wouldn't use Evri for anything of value, say over £50, but I guess it's a matter of trust and experience.
As you have already said most carriers wont knowingly accept pressurised containers
Retailers and suspension repair centres are allowed to use most carriers as they have an agreement with the carrier that the items are not faulty and are packaged correctly with the right labelling for hazardous items
None of the main carriers will tell you they will accept a rear shock/fork
Personally ive always removed the air from the shock and fork and then used Royal mail next day delivery
Reason being (in my head) is that the less time an item spends in their system the less chance there is of damage/ it being found not to conform to their delivery policy
Plus sending 24hr delivery atleast you know by the next day if its arrived ok or if there is an issue

One shock got confiscated and destroyed about 15 years ago.

what about those the bubble wrap bubbles/ jiffy bags with bubble padding

They dont destroy them. They confiscate and sell it in a job lot.
NOT Evri - they seem very good at losing or breaking stuff and then have the worst customer support possible.
Well there's a coincidence, I was going to ask the same question today! But for an eBay sale rather than sending my own for service.
