Does anyone use one? How do they compare to polyester and merino wool base layers?
All my HH lifa base layers are Polyprop, they're great as thermals the only downside it they stink after 1 ride.
However my Howies Merino gets wet and stays wet, so if you stop you get cold quickly. On the up side it doesn't smell as much.
I don't have any Polyester base layers just road jerseys, so don't have an opinion on their thermal properties.
Merino is great for walking and maybe touring where you're not going full pelt but not mcuh cop for fast rides.
That's in my experience.
Helly Hansen LIFA is polypropylene and they are brilliant, without doubt the best base layers I've ever used as they keep you much drier
Seconded for the smelly helly. I've had mine for 15 years.
Mine is 100% Italian Polypropylene. Therefore, it has more style.
got some Lifa stuff (love it) and a thin polypro top for sailing that's also excellent. The main thing with polypro is that as it's effectively plastic it repels water away from the body so you stay drier and therefore warmer.
