[#1797921]

As above, I'm after some light-ish tyres to use for racing and training and which, importantly, won't cause me to fall off of at the slightest hint of mud!

I'm only 7.5 stone and have never had a puncture off-road (despite running v low pressures), so I can probably get away with something without too much sidewall protection.

(I've got a pair of 2.1 Maxxis Highroller Exception Rs in the garage - they worth sticking on?)

Thanks!

Rocket Rons

If you're riding a fair bit they do wear quickly though, I'd consider keeping them for racing only.

Are you running tubeless? In which case the Schwalbes work more consistently, tighter bead and less porous sidewalls.

If not the Contis are cheaper.

Good question, I can be persuaded to spend a decent amount, if people reckon they warrant it. After all, I've spent a lot on the rest of the bike but it'll still ride horribly with crappy tyres!

Sorry that's not very specific!

Thanks Njee (again!). I'll be doing most of my training on the road (miles wise anyway) so quite like the idea of keeping things consistent and having the same tyres on all the time. Would you go Rocket Rons F&R?

Yep, will be running tubeless as I have Stans rims.

You'll probably wear Rons very quickly if you ride a lot on the road, the Race King may be a more sensible option.

Edit: Or Racing Ralphs, slightly heavier, not as good in the mud, but they will last longer.

SpeedKings - but they won't last very long if most of your miles are on the road.

I'd look at getting a cheap 2nd set of wheels for sticking some slicks on just for road work. I got some from my local bike shop & I think the total was £130 including rim tape, cassette, 2 Schwalbe City Jet tyres & QRs.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I meant I'll be churning out the miles on my road bike, so won't be doing as much off-road - to start with at least, so shouldn't wear them too fast.

Just had a look at prices - are the 'Evolution, triple nano' versions worth the extra £10? (if they're as good as the marketing suggests, then yes!)

Aaaah, I see, I thought you meant you were going to be riding your Ron-shod MTB on the road, which will kill them.

In that case, I stick with my original recommendation! I've never used anything but the Evo versions, so I can't comment on the others. Suggest Germany is a better place to buy them though, €30 each here.

Or, get them from Starbike with the chainrings and save on postage, they're only €33 each there.
