A few of us are planning a weekend trip there next month. Has anyone stayed or can recommend somewhere to stay in the area? Cheers
Andy
We stayed in the 'wooden tents' at Gorsebank. Right on the doorstep of Dalbeattie and not that far too drive to get to Kirroughtree.
Try the Kings Arms in Castle Douglas, it's owned by a mtb'r and there's secure storage for bikes. Decent Bike shops (Next Level Bikes,Scotia Velo) with local trail knowledge within 100 yards and a brewery with a pub (of sorts but all the better for it) within 150 yards, decent enough restaurants and in the middle for Mabie/Drumlanrig,Dalbeattie,Kirroughtree.
+1 for Gorsebank.
Had a 'log cabin' there a few years ago - the outdoor hot tub was VERY welcome after slogging round Kirroughtree Black in several inches of snow! Only a few minutes ride from the trails and very close to Newton Stewart for supplies.
Gorsebank all day long for me . Stayed in a timber Wigwam last year to do some of the stanes which was awesome . This year we stayed in the 10 man bothy which was awesomer ๐
