Hi all, brain picking time. I'm about to pull the trigger on a pink Moxie Mx3, and size wise at 5'11 i fall right into their 'Long or Longer' region. Any 5'11 Moxie owners able to chime in here for a bit of advice and which size you went for and why? Planning on building up on a 140mm fork and switching between 29 and 27.5+, possibly even try mullet.
Thanks in advance,
Dan
Any owners...i know you're out there
I'm 6ft 2 and have the longer and it's perfect. It's tricky to say what you should go for. If you are in the Wigan area you are welcome to try mine for size?
Brilliant bike by the way, you will love it.
I'm nowhere near your height but I do have a Moxie mx3. I think it depends on what you want/like in terms of reach. I went for the smaller of the two sizes that the size guide would put me on, because I felt like I knew broadly what reach I wanted and the bigger option seemed a shade too much. So I would say it's valuable also to try other frames with similar reach and seat tube angles to form an opinion on your desired reach. My bike definitely doesn't feel small to me, and in the past I've tended to size up, preferring a longer frame.
I am 5ft 11, Ride a long and it is perfect. Tried the longer and it feels too big around corners and tight terrain. I have a 160mm fork on mine and in 29er mode and it rides rougher terrain better than my ripmo and ends up being a pretty addictive bike!
A few considerations about the Moxie's sizing:
- the provided geo table is with a 552mm A2C length, roughly equivalent to a 140mm fork. So if you go with the more common 160mm fork the bike will end up shorter
- it has a fairly short headtube (105mm) so once you install some spacers reach will also be shorter
What I'm saying is that, while the published reach values might sound daunting, in use the bike will feel quite manageable.
I'm in between 6'-6'1 and briefly owned a MK1 Longer Moxie with 140mm fork and fairly light trail build, never felt too long. Miss it dearly, really regret never trying it with a more HD build with 160mm forks etc. I frequently have these stupid impulses to sell the AM9 and build a MK3 with the same kit.
@lightfighter762, how do you compare the Ripmo with the Moxie going downhill?
