I can see a very handy route through/past the college grounds and over a footbridge, gives me a useful route to the hilltracks beyond and skips 5 miles of tarmac.
Anyone tried this route? Skirts perilously close to the college grounds and I think kids + Covid might trump any access rights I might have in this situation...
Have emailed college but no response so far.

Bump just in case
Don't know for sure, but that does look like it goes right through the middle of the school!
I know the guys at Synergy in Auchterarder ride around those parts a lot so it could be worth dropping them a message to ask (or even better, going in there for a coffee).
Yeah, Donnie is my neighbour now! 😁
Popped in for an espresso earlier, he was intrigued also but hasn't tried it.
Might need to try some tentative exploration next week, if you switch to 'running' on Strava route planner there appear to be a lot of traces going through trees behind the main buildings...
No clue about this, but reminiscing about my old area, used to go for rides up and around there, through the Sma' Glen, Loch Freuchie and so on, back when i was fit and had working legs!
Yep, that's my neck of the woods Argee! All within 80-100km loops of Auchterarder, perfect for the gravel bike, loving some of the stuff I'm discovering.
have a look on Strava Global heat map to see if anyone else is using it.

Yep, a bit faint in 'cycling' mode but very bold in 'running' mode, but I suspect it might be staff/inmates leaving the running traces.
Most likely will be. If you did go through I'd expect you to be challenged and probably told not to. Never been to Glenalmond but as a former inmate of such a school even in more liberal times that would have been a nono.
Best phoning the school for clarity though, that would get a quicker response. Seeing as it's not term time you may get something more positive (or they may not want to set a precedent).
Our old centre had FP x2 and track through the grounds.
We were within our Access rights to ask people to walk around - usually we ignored those on a main track and kept footpath walkers close through a quick chat with them.
any access rights I might have in this situation…
No access rights within school grounds. I'm not sure how large the grounds are, not can I recall how widely the LR(S)A defines school grounds - but I think if you have to ask then the answer is probably no.

this is from my mate that lives on the grounds. hope it helps as I know the detour that you are on about. I have scoped out a fair few routes around that area so give me a shout if you want any.
Route of least conflict, but you will technically go through main paths and houses on the grounds. Back avenue I believe is technically a right of way, but as it is a school it is not a right to roam. Over covid and school term it has been advised no right of access, which i think is sensible enough. But we are moving away from Covid restrictions and it is now the school holidays. I’m sure certain indivisuals will ask you to stop, question you, and advise against doing it in the future. But that seems to come from a small minority of private land owners/managers.
Thanks Robbie, great info!
I'm still in two minds, the potential for a bit of grief or aggro might be enough to put me off, wouldn't really be comfortable unless there was a proper bit of separation between me and the school 'grounds' such as they are.
Given how good I'm finding the general attitude towards access in Perthshire it would do just to let this one go and suck up the extra 15 minutes of quiet road.
