We will be in touch
Morning.
Just thought I'd share my delight with the Park patches. Got a flat on my commute this morning (my fault, not enough tyre pressure + large pothole + fat rider = snakebite) and used these for the first time. I've an Alfine hub and although I always carry spanners, tube, etc, last time I was in the LBS I thought I'd give the patches a whirl to avoid the palaver that comes with IHG.
Bike upside down (the horror!), pop one tyre bead, tube out, found holes, quick rub with sandpaper and two patches on. They attached without fuss and looked very secure immediately, I was on my way very quickly.
All in all about as pleasant an experience as I've had with roadside puncture repair, highly recommended!
they work well as frame protectors to.
They are not as permanent as a 'proper' patch though.
I swear by them too. maybe not as permanent as "proper patch" but I have never had an issue with them.
The only thing is that they could do with being a bit bigger.
Oh? I didn't realise that. Makes sense I guess as they are a lot thinner and more pliable than a 'proper' patch. So are you supposed to use them as an emergency patch and then put a 'proper' one on later? They are not as permanent as a 'proper' patch though.
I have a feeling I might just end up finding out how permanent that can be 🙂
Edit: The tube they went on has about 4 'proper' patches already so may be retired when it fails again or I get round to changing it.
I wouldn't worry about it. You'll write the tube off before they come unstuck.
weldtite red devils for me
Don't get me wrong, I use them myself and think they are great, but they do fail over time.
I wouldn't view it as emergency only at all. Sure the Park may not last 3 years in the back of the shed but it'll be fine for a year or so if properly applied (and you don't let the adhesive get wet when stored in your pack)
The patches last a long time unless you inflate/deflate your inner tube a lot for example if changing tyres for the weekend then back for the commute to work.
In any case I leave them on until they fail then put a proper patch on (cue lots of swearing at 6.30am when i find them though). Whenever commuting though I take a spare inner tube for speed of change then fix the puncture at home when I have time to go old skool with the patches.
I always used to, and still carry everything I'd need, but I recently moved to an Alfine so reckoned it was quicker to patch it in-situ than remove the wheel and mess around re-tensioning the chain etc etc etc.Whenever commuting though I take a spare inner tube for speed of change then fix the puncture at home when I have time to go old skool with the patches.
I have one road inner tube with about 7 patches on, three of them are Park self-adhesive ones and they haven't failed yet - not sure how old but must be a couple of years.
This is in contrast to Evans ones which fail before you've even stuck them on - absolute dog shit. If you do get one to stick by cleaning the tube to a sterile state and applying the patch within a nanosecond of peeling it off its wrapper, as soon as you deflate the tube it bunches up and peels off.
Tried them for the first time recently too, seen a few people slagging them on here not to long ago.
Ripped literally 1/2 / 3/4inch tear in my tube 1/4 way down the san marino..had no tubes and was gutted thinking back to that thread and that was it...long walk to train station..
boom! Fixed tube wuth the super duper patch...still fully up to this day. Was very very happy!
So yea..da bomb!!
