Chipps tries to keep up with professional fit blokes Simon Richardson and Nick Craig as they leave the city and head for the Peak.
Not sure what the point of rehashing this article is other than to say we went MTB'ing 20 years ago. Its probably a great route, but is it still the same today? Maybe comparing it to someone doing it today would have made it more relevant. The photos are awful, low res images blown up beyond their capacity and a map that is totally unreadable and could be anywhere in the UK. Lazy journalism.
I enjoyed it! How about a re-run by the original trio? Maybe even explore a link with GCN/GMBN?
I'm surprised no one has been on to blather about you calling it the Peaks 😉
I quite enjoyed a brief read of it.ย
Interesting to see the changes in perception of trails, the Beast being lauded as a bit of a challenge, the gods that grace these pages nowadays dismiss it as little more than a paved cycle track.ย
Oh and Sheffield ain't that grim (well, not all of it) 😊
The Beast is a challenge on a bike with no suspension or short travel front forks. Its not perceptions that have changed it's bikes.
It's not the full thing without the route info/map is it? Soz. I'll jig up a map and/or gpx thing and update the story!
And yes, that is GCN Si Richardson back when he raced MTBs for Great Britain (I think this feature was sometime around the Commonwealth Games)

I enjoyed that too. Its right when I was at Hallam, which I went to because of the quality of the engineering school / didnt get enough points to go elsewhere / because I could literally do this exact ride into the Peak District from my flat on Eccy road!
