Broke my right heel last week so now looking as though I'm going to be out of action for a few months. Gutted.
Been in hospital for a days but now out before going back in on Wednesday for operation. The frustrating thing is I have been working really hard on fitness this year with running and cycling but not going to be able to put any weight on injured leg until next year.
Already missing exercise - but can't tear myself away from looking at bikes and gear even though I know won't be able to use for ages.
Question - what are best safe exercises for someone on leg and crutches? Thinking sit ups, press ups, pull ups (if can lower down safely) and maybe a few upper body weights. Once I no longer have to keep my foot elevated I figured long walks on the crutches should do a lot for upper body.
Not sure whereabouts you live, Simon, but if you are near to a Cycling Project they may have a handcycle for you to use. As Jedi said "All riding is good riding" ๐
I'm not far from Leeds. Might have to look into that as you say anything better than nothing.
Do you think you might be able to get on the turbo and try really super light spinning using the ball of the foot? Last time I was off the bike injuries ( busted ribs/collar bone/wrist) that kept me sane, plus shopping for a new bike build to celebrate when I was fit enough to ride again.
Edit, if you are in a cast then scratch my idea.... Though you might be able to screw a cleat to the bottom of it ๐
turbo might be an option in a couple of months but not yet unfortunately.
At least I'm being well looked after by the wife but she's not overly impressed by my injury as I can now do bugger all to help with the 3 kids.
