[#3178769]

Well, my pedal fell off. And i imagine it must have been resting on the last few threads whilst i was stll cranking away judging by the round metal shavings i pulled out of the insert.

Anyway, i tried to refit with no luck, i then tried to refit the pedal from behind which worked well, managing to theread the pedal threads all the way through (in the hope to clean out the threads from the other side) Tried to refit the right way round again and no joy as it appears that two of threads in the crank have twisted and bent a little. This meant that it was difficult to line up the pedal correctly and begin threading it in.

Anyway, since the pedal went in from behind the crank i'm assuming the thread is still salvageable? If for whatever reason it isn't (after i have another go in a bit when i'm less angry) Will there be aynthing that can be done? retapping it for example with the same sized bit?

Cheers

Don't panic. Take it to a reputable LBS or engineering company. They can try and retap from the back which might well work. If not then they can drill the old threads out and helicoil.

Don't take it to a LBS. They're just fitters and will only mess it up. Engineering firm would be a better bet. Where do you live?

a monkey could use a helicoil kit - get the appropriate size from a motor spares place

They are scrap, I'll take them off you so you don't have to dispose of them.
If you can get a tap, thread it through from teh back and see if the pedal will go back on.

Helicoil is a last resort. I can't see how they're that badly damaged. Try and get the thread cleaned up with a tap first.
