Hello all,

a local charity has approached me about running a cycling sportive and I was wondering if anybody had any info or advice they can offer me. As a little bit of a background this is at a very early planning stage, but they usually organise a sponsored walk sort of event on this particular date and last year with some success added a mountain bike element.

I have no real experience at this sort of thing, though I have partaken in a few sportives.

I haven't organised a sportive but I have a friend who does.
He said that British Cycling were very helpful and its good to get the police and council on your side too.

Never organised one, but I think if you are a CTC member or Audax member and you run it under their rules, the insurance cover is something like £25 for the event. I'm sure I read that recently too so it might be worth checking out. I would suspect otherwise insurance could be a big overhead for you. Good luck with your event though.

Not for a Sportive, that's way too low.
British Cycling's insurance is £60 for every 100 riders on the event:

Last time I looked, CTC's was something very similar. SportIdent do an insurance policy as well which is about 65p per rider so CTC's will be in the same sort of area.
