That is the question, now go forth and provide me with answers u orrible lot!

Serious tho, im in the market.com for one of those frames. I test rode the St4 and liked it alot, so after a bit of hunting i have found a 2010 frame at a good price.

Haven't ridden the Commencal to he fair but they look very similar, been offered a medium at a good price. Just wondering if this would suit my 5ft 6 towering height? I have read conflicting size reports on what size for a rider my height.

The bike is for Trail centre riding, Glentress and Laggan mainly, im after something that will climb well and go down the other side quickly, i had a 5 which was great but it was a drag to climb on, considered a Trek Ex but not keen on the looks and didn't find it enjoyable to ride.

Im looking to build a sub 28lb bike.

So can anybody help me decide?

Simples.

Commencal all the way 😉 just make sure you get a 120mm fork to give it better angles 😉

despite being an Orange fan I really like the look of Commencals, I just need to get my confidence back on the cracking issue

ST4 is prob going to build up a bit heavier and maybe climb a bit less lively. However, it will piss on the "supers" chips on the way down .Ive got one and its superb.

Yeah i have a 120mm fork ready for it, im a bit hesitant on the cracking issues aswell.

I did see the deal at Rutland but im getting a square chainstay 2010 frame for less! 😉

The reviews say the St4 is a better trail bike which is it's intended use but to he deal on the super 4 is very good!

HELP!

Cant help with sizing as mine was a large and im 6'3",but the St4 is
a superb handling bike and absolutely thrives at trail centres.

cracking issues all gone for 2010 and 2011
New factory building them and improved quality control
So long as you dont get a 2009 you will be okay
Although having said that the cracks in 2009 only mainly affected the Meta 5's there was only a handful of 4's with problems and from what Ive seen some of them where from lets say 'over-riding'

Yeah i can't seem to find many snapping or cracking issues with the 2010 frames, they just look very simaliar in design..

The deal is good on the super 4 buy from what i can read the ST4 is the better overall bike.

Mike.

Read where, British press???

Build both bikes up with the same components the Super 4 would ride up better than the ST4 and be as much fun coming down. Plus it doesn't look like it was knocked up by an aesthetically diminished apprentice welder.

I'd go for the better designed frame that isn't overpriced.

someone will be along in a minute to tell you that if you are considering these two you should probably buy something else...

...oh, hang on, that's me.

Have you looked at an Anthem X?

If this helps I'm 5"6 and ride a small meta 4 and a medium meta 5. Both feel fine for swapping between
And the size has never been an issue. I love the meta 4 and it's noticeably faster than the 5.
I also own a blue pig and the meta 4 is the bike I would choose if I wanted speed on the light rough.

Well yeah, where else am i going to read it seeing as i am British after all?

I have read good reviews for both bikes, the most noticeable comment is that the Super 4 is a good bike but a little heavy for a 100mm short travel frame, plus the head angle could do with being a degree slacker..that said it is a good bike for trail centres.

The reviews on the Orange say it is a great bike to ride at trail centre and has a better headangle for decending.

The Commencal is the better climber but not as involved on the downhill bits as the Orange, however they both ride like 5" bikes.

I would say that the Orange looks alot neater in the weld areas than the other bikes they produce but i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

As for price, as they are both second hand but unused neither is over priced! The Commencal is only £100 cheaper new anyway!

Thanks for the input tho.

Yeah looked at the Anthem X, but had a bad experience with the Giant bike brand a few years back and i can't get my head round that (daft i know).

I looked at the Commencal geometry and as usual i am on the border line for the frame sizes, i think the medium Super 4 would be ideal mind you as the Top Tube measurement is very similair to the 5 i had last year and that was a good fit for me.

I suppose it comes down to wonga!!

The Commencal frame is coming with a set of new Fox forks for £750

The Orange St4 frame is coming with a Hope headset, BB and seatclamp for £745.

Mike.

Hard decision. I'd look at it this way: if you got the st4 would you wonder about the commencal? If so your heart is on the commencal, if not you really want the st4.

The true answer is obviously to get both 🙂

Get in touch with your ISP and ask them upgrade your 'Britain Only' package. 😉

You'll have a blast on whichever one you choose.

Yes Rob, the only way to do it fairly is to get both! ha ha.. I wish.

I think it is the deal on the Commencal that is stopping me taking the St4, to be honest it was the St4 i originally wanted, then as usual i spied the Commencal and thought..hmmmm wait a minute.

Maybe i should stop being such a miserable swine and buy the St4?

Ill do that Euro,

They just seem very similair ans they are both good deals, i have a Cube road bike...does that count as supporting the Euro?

Would you flog your existing forks? If so that makes the commencal a real steal and you could spend the cash on some new shiny bits or wheels?

Yeah i could flog them to a mate, i could build the bike with good kit, hope headset, bb and hoops, sram x0 gearing, thomson seatpost and stem, slx brakes etc for £1350 + £300 if i went for the St4 as id probably upgrade to bettr forks to be honest.

They are private sales, mind ur own business and find ur own deals! 😉

Whats ur bank account details Euro? You have won €8000000000 on the South African lottery, i just need a small fee to process the payment! Thnk you please.
