Hi - I've taken my bike to the alps a few times now, and never remove my rotors. However, I paid for this time when I ended up riding around with bent rotors for the rest of the holiday after they got bent in the bike bag.
I'm worried about taking the rotors off since I hear you're supposed to use locktite when putting them back on.
Do you guys leave the rotors on or take them off? Do you locktite them on or just tighten the torq nuts up normally?
i take mine off, never used lock-tite, never had a problem...
Why didn't you just bend them back?
If you must take them off, rotor bolts should have a re-useable type of threadlock on them anyway.
take them off - just remember to get the bolts tight and check after the 1st run.
bent rotors can never be made fully true IME
It's a novel idea i know, but how about getting some loctite?
I remove my rotors fairly frequently and never used loctite - never check them and never had a problem.
Swapped rotors over a few times, never used locktite and not had a problem.
I take mine off. Never used locktite, never had a problem.
As per other replies, I do this on my overseas hols, no loctite and no issues
don't forget to pack the torq wrench either...
Oh and put some kind of spacer in between the pads, otherwise the brake levers might get knocked and you will have to force the pistons back out.
Thanks guys. I now am the proud owner of a little torq wrench. I did have to bend the rotors back into shape last year - I don't know about you, but when this happens, I always end up with some rubbing.
I'll remove the rotors and check the boths religiously afterwards! Thanks for the advice.
