I am hatching a plot to try and organise one. Is there a handbook or guidance anywhere? Have failed to find anything obvious on the web but my searching is notoriously pants! Does anyone have any hints, help etc? Are they effective as a way of raising funds for a club?

Given the location (the flatlands) I guess it would not appeal to "hard core" types but it would be a challenge, maybe one for roadies who want to try a long off road ride - maybe a 100 miler.

find a club who organise one and tap them up for some tips.
west drayton mbc do the bucks off road sportive.
