[Closed] Numpty gas tyre inflator question....

Just took delivery of some CO2 cartridges to inflate my tyres (doing a tubeless conversion). However on inspection the box /label states they are N2O but no markings on the cartridges.

Now are these ok and will it react with the Stans No Tubes fluid?

n2o? Nitrous Oxide, aka laughing gas?

it is used as an oxidising agent, but as for your question don't know, but just seems an odd choice.

IIRC laughing gas was/is used as a propellant for things like whipped cream aerosols so there's probably a market for N2O cartridges from amateur cheffy types who want to make foams/emulsions/veloutes/other fancy words for sauce.

Not a clue if it reacts differently to latex though.

I have seen nitrous cartidges like this - as thepurist says they are for food use as its harmless.

You could just inhale the nitrous and forget about bike riding

If you're going to do that make sure that you expel the gas into a balloon first to save freezing your windpipe eh.

Correct technique involves expelling gas from cartridge into balloon then taking repeated breaths in and out of said balloon (without taking your lips off) until everything gets really quite amusing.

bigbloke, did you see the diy tubeless compressor made from a 2l soda bottle a while back? Much cheaper way to inflate tubeless than gas canisters. Also found it works better as the 2l bottle @ 90psi expels air quicker and does a better job of seating the tyre.

I bought them from "tyreinflators" plus a pump thing. Now looking at their invoice their proper trading name is....Catering & Leisure Supplies Ltd.

Maybe its bulk CO2 in old boxes, anyhow i have emailed them.

Hugh, a track pump works just fine.

Spence, just got the CO2 inflator as a back up if it doesnt work with the track pump (fingers crossed).

Using Stans No Tubes standard kit

Mavic XM317 rims

Racing Ralph Evo Tubeless Ready (not full UST things though)

Hoping i have no glitches.

Track pump does not always work fine. Its very hit and miss depending on tyres and rims. Either works straight away or you might as well not bother. CO2 inflaters don't seem to have enough puff to be reliable either.

The method here though works every time. I tend to pump mine to about 80psi (carefully whilst wearing eye protection). 2.1" nevegal completely unseated will end on inflated at 30psi ish.

Mine is slightly different from the link in that I only have a single valve in the bottle. I put a t piece into the line, one part going to bottle, one to the wheel and the third with a one way valve. I then attach my track pump to the on way valve.

Hose, t piece and 1 way valve can be got from halfords, they are the ones used for car washer jets.
