Hi,

I have just bought a Mega 275 RS and it's great but I am intrigued about running it with a 29er front wheel.

Does anyone know whether there would there be any issues that would mean I couldn’t do this? If I did it obviously I would need a new front wheel and tyre, but would I need to change the forks or anything else?

Cheers,

Jon

You'll need to change the forks.
Don't think you will get a 29'er in there.

If we didn’t have to change our (rather expensive) forks for different ones, I believe that mullet bikes would have caught on a lot quicker!

A 29er fork is about 20mm longer than a 27.5”, so when you add that to the extra tyre radius you have to decrease the fork travel by 30-40mm to keep the bike’s geometry about the same. A straight swap to a 29” wheel and fork of the same travel otherwise slackens off the angles by almost two degrees and raises the BB by about half an inch.

OK cheers, it'll be a while 'til I bother then as, like you say, the forks are so expensive.

You can change the lowers for about £300, but it’s really not worth it - there’s no way a 29 inch front wheel is worth losing at least 20mm of travel for.
