[Closed] Nukeproof generator rear hub - siezed

so after a partucularly wet weekend back in november, my solitude has been left unridden - forks needed a service and a snapped chain, + life in general meant that i was using other bikes.

now i've got some new forks for my solitude (throw away culture, eh...) i want to get it back up and running...

so i'm fiddling about with the bike and the BB is siezed - rotating the cranks against the BB thread actually undoes the BB, so i figure i'll get it fixed/replaced - whack it in the post to BETD for them to put some of their bearings in.

rear wheel posing more of a problem though...

when it is in the frame (no chain attached so theoretically free running...) the wheel will rotate forward freely with the freehub clicking away all well and good.

however, the wheel will not freely rotate backwards, and if i grab the cassette and try and rotate the wheel forward that way i run the risk of ripping the skin off my hands!

from my internerd research i think the rear hub has 5 sets of bearings, which i imagine will need changing?

does anyone have any experience of this? how to do it, where to get it done perhaps? what bearings to get etc?

thanks (and sorry for the rambling post - got an exam tomorrow and this is far more interesting to think about than bloody clouds and the ITCZ etc)

I have the same problem with mine. The front is still fine but the rear has completely seized up.

You'll need these

35 quid

Can't help with fitting advice though I'm afraid, I'd take it to an lbs, however I'm not techically adept.

Good luck

hmmm...

yep, front is sweet as a whistle...

am thinking i may try and get the dimensions of the bearings and get some better quality (but hopefully cheaper, non-branded) ones elsewhere - love the hubs, but not too impressed with the rear bearings, they were sounding ropey before they siezed as it is...

thanks for the link btw ๐Ÿ™‚

35 bloody quid!
Go to a local bearing shop...or anywhere that deals with motorbikes.
Jobs a goodun.

Must be a cheaper way.

Ditto, managed to free mine up for a while by releasing the lock nuts and giving the hub axle a gentle tap side to side but the freehub bearing had partially collapsed. I havent fixed it yet due to the price even from CRC of the replacement-very disappointed cost not far off the same price as a Hope hub but quarter of the lifespan.

yep, i'll try and whack them out and take them to a shop...

if i do this though, the pawls etc aren't going to fall out of the freehub or anything are they?
have delt with shimano units in the past which are just that, a unit, but will others fall apart if the axle isn't in?

how foolproof is the job?

You have the bearing numbers from the crc ad, they are also shown on the nukeproof website.

didn't realise that the bearing numbers would signify its dimensions in other brands of bearings? kinda fancy better quality ones...
