Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the mountain biking game. I'm looking for company (And hopefully to learn something about riding) out and about near Manchester. Have done a few rides in the dark peaks from a book I was given (Longest ones were a loop around Ladybower and another around Mam Tor).

Little nervous about riding with other people as I'm quite rubbish and don't like holding people up.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of an all abilities club or something similar that rides evenings weekends round Manchester?

One other thing. I've been driving to the Peaks for all of my riding. Is there somewhere a little closer to Manchester (Withington specifically) that I can drive or even cycle to quickly for an evening ride?

Thanks in advance for all replies.

I'm north Manchester and pretty Poo too if you fancy a get together some time? Email in profile if you want to.
I also know a few peeps in south manchester (chorton) that may be interested - will tell em you're here ๐Ÿ™‚
They have the patience of a saint - they allowed me to go out with them without knowing how bad I was!

Good luck and enjoy!!!! (it's fabulous!)

Hi there

I'm in Chorlton so ride around the water parks occasionally, thinking of riding up to Werneth Low on Sunday on the Trans Pennine Trail...

Not much else around here.

Email address in profile if you fancy being shown around locally. As solarpowered says we don't axe murder all the new riders.

i'm in chorlton too, and although not really new to MTB i am ridiculously unfit!
watch out for harry the spider posting on here about the prestwich pub rides; they're fairly gently paced and always a good bunch of people out riding who have no problem waiting for slowcoaches like me whenever i need it (which is most of the time)!
also, delamere forest's not that far away and not bad for a change from the dark peak, or alternatively head north(ish) to rivington, ramsbottom, lee and cragg quarries? i'd be happy to join in/lead newbie/slowcoaches type rides in most of those places...

We've a mailing list (see my profile) through which we organise rides more or less weekly, out of Marple - not too far from Withington. All comers welcome. Bring beer money

I also live in Withington.

There's very little locally, although if you fancy a pootle along the mersey then head up Burton Rd through West Didsbury and turn right onto Barlow Moor Road, then second left onto Darley Avenue. Bingo.

Get in the car direct, or short ride along the transpennine (path out the back of Sainsburys fallowfield) to North Reddish station and the peaks are yours to explore.

Beyond that it's a friend to ride and guide, a good guide book (how I did it, feel free to borrow), or the Internet (already on it).

I ride out from reddish vale quite often and was considering arranging a evening ride if anyone fancies it. It is decent riding and starts inside the m60. I would not be going too fast.

Thanks everyone for helpful replies. I've signed up to Marple Riders and hope I'll be able to get out if there is something happening mid next week. I'll join Manchester Mountain bikers soon.

solarpowered, xherbivorex, Mark and ewe-r thanks for the kind offers, I'll be in touch soon via email and hopefully we can sort something out soon.

Andy

I'm either in The Peaks or Lakes most weekends. Phillps Hall Park in Whitefield is decent for a little spin and Lee Quarry is a short drive away.
