[Closed] Newbie Needs Help With Cranks and Bottom Brackets

Hello
I am new to cycling and need a bit of help.

Bike was making clunking noises when I cycled and it was recommended that I replace the crank set and bottom bracket. I have managed to get the drive side crank wheel off but can't seem to get the other side off. The crank side just seemed to pull off. Any tips?

Sorry if I haven't got the lingo right...just starting out on my cycling journey!

I can see the face of the bottom bracket shell and the axle has a larger bore down the middle so I'm thinking ISIS. That crank will come off easily enough with an oversized crank extractor.

If the other side came off just by pulling, then it was loose which will also have damaged the splined interface so you probably do need a new bottom bracket and chainset.

Thanks for your responses.

I have been trying to use this extractor:

but from what you are saying I need an enlarged one?

How close is your nearest bicycle shop? They'll have the tool, can show you and then if needed sell you the tool for next time.

Yep, that one is too small. It might be possible to use a washer of the right size but getting it wrong could mean it getting stuck in there.

I think people used to try a couple of 5p coins. Not tried that one myself.
