Just bought my first towbar wheel support rack , a Thule, and have a question. When clamped to the towball it seems to bear the weight fine without movement but the rack will move upward if you lift the rack. I only noticed because I had forgot to loosen the ball clamp when trying to remove it. Is this normal, is this a problem

Mine does not move in any direction (Thule EuroClassic).

I have to have the rack at 'just the right angle' for the clamp to actually lock down overcentre, and it does so quite firmly.

Hmmmm - would try tightening the nut that adjusts the pressure on the ball. You need to have it so it's quite hard to push the handle down.

Agreed - and try holding the rack at different angles - mine pointed down slightly on the Galaxy hitch, but is perfectly level on the new car.

as above, when tightening it, wiggle it, just a little bit...

Are you not moving the car slightly?

As all above, ours is completely solid and as Matt says, adjust it so the clamping handle is quite hard to close. There is a "tiny" bit of movement, like, very small, and this is in the removable tow hitch to the car...

Definitely needs some serious compression on the ball to lock. I have an atera one and a little red button pops up when tight enough.

Great. Once set up, all I ever do is spray grease into the mechanism once a year or so.
