So Superground is basically Just A Tyre and Supertrail is kind of Snakeskin Done Right At Last? And Supergravity is more or less the same as old supergravity, ie really bloody good.

The Super Ground adds tread-face puncture protection, which ime has always been the problem with snakeskin, so that's a good addition. Though I'd still say just makes the tyres fit for purpose rather than really being a big upgrade.

Looks like the 27.5 super trail Magic Mary is heavier than the current super gravity and the snakeskin will no longer be available, so thats a 250g gain if you're a snakeskin MM user, maybe it's a good time to stock up on the sub 1kg versions.
I may, for the first-time in years, have to put matching tyre brands on, finally a schwalbe fit to pair with a Mary 😊

So if I was to buy a Mary, to be used on the front of a trail bike, which is the one to go for? 2.4" Super Trail at a guess. Would be replacing a 2.5" Maxxis Exo Assegai/DHF.

I'd recommend the 2.6in Apex Snakeskin soft version, it doesn't roll much slower or weigh much more than the smaller ones and it grips better.
I stopped caring so much about tyre weight some time ago when I realized that that can be easily offset with some weeks worth of fitness adaptation, while there's little I could do to improve reliability (was going through a set of Exo tyres every couple of months at the time).
I'm fine with a tyre weighting up to 1200g or even a little more, plus insert, if that really warrants reliability.
I've read somewhere that part of Schwalbe's scope for the new range was to save users the need for inserts, which would account for a 100-200g saving per wheel. However I couldn't find any extra details on how do they expect to meet that claim.
Used a DD rear Aggressor for 8 months, awful thread pattern (this is like, my opinion dude) but very durable, zero issues. Installed a set of Michelin Wild Enduros a month ago and already have a deepish slash on the rear one, not impressed.
This Schwalbe range makes it clear on the intended use of each tyre and casing.

While I trashed a DD aggressor in 3 rides while my Wild Enduros have lasted a year without fault. Not sure anecdotal sample sizes of 1 prove anything!
Yes, I completely agree that my anecdotal experience proves nothing, but considering that it was on the same trails, same riding style, it leaves a bad taste in one's mouth nonetheless. And the Wild Enduros compound is objectively softer and faster wearing than the Aggressor I had, so that's minus 1 point for durability.
Anyway, I've read the insert thing on Pinkbike, here's their quote:
"In some cases, the tires have gained a few grams compared to previous versions, but Schwalbe's intention with the extra reinforcement was to allow riders to run the tires without needing to use any inserts, an interesting change of course from the company that brought Procore to the market back in 2014."

I've had the same experience with Wild Enduro as Zezaskar, good front tyre but the wear rate and eventual air loss on both was frustrating and wear on the rear was comically fast. Mine lasted about 3 months maybe 450 -500 miles. Rear is dead, front's got a bit of life left in it, but leaks like a sieve
I've drawn up a little comparison table to try and find my ideal tyre, assuming more weight (manufacturer listed) = more protection.
In last 12 months I've found a Wild Endure rear (1160g), and a DHRII Exo+ (1010g) to both be too fragile (hardtail, pool noodle, 30mm rim and rocks).
If I went Maxxis I would probably choose a DHRII or Dissector DD (1190g/1176g), although the full DH casing isn't much heavier (1265g/1280g). However I have had 3 Maxxis tyres go wobbly in last year), so I don't want to go Maxxis again.
A Super Gravity Big Betty (1320g) is heavier than the Maxxis.
So I think Super trail is for me (at 1200g).
Or Super Gravity without an insert perhaps.
More thinking time yet before purchase.
