Just got in from work at 1am to find a box and was like a kid on Christmas morning 😀

Apologies for the really poor pictures, too excited to take anything decent at the moment!!

Do I see a spoon based brake mount? Nice! 😉
Looks like a thing of purpose, look forward to seeing it in its entirety.

Just need to sit down and finalise the build now.

It's even nicer than I thought it was going to be and was well worth the wait.

I'll take some better pics over the coming week.

Just been looking at his site. Some of the most beautiful machining & welding I've ever seen. Lovely.
Guessing we're talking lottery win prices... 🙂

I like it 🙂

Why the weld on the seat tube - is it made of multiple tubes instead of internal butting?

It does look nice.

Not sure it's 'that much money' nice, but if you can afford it, then hey, why not!!??

The only thing I don't like is the name on the down tube. Most people are just going to think you are called Steve Potts.

Beautiful frame, but I can't help thinking the guy should have called the company something different. If your name is Enzo Ferrari by all means go ahead, but Steve Potts? LMAO.

I think I would buy it just for the rear brake mount, Sweet looking frame. Really nice dull Ti finish to the frame as well.

The price for the frame, type 2 forks, ti stem, ti post and ti bars including the postage and dreaded import duty was £3800 which I think works out cheaper than buying a Moots for example.

I'm sure a Moots frame, stem, post and bars is around £3700 and that doesn't include any forks.

Just to confirm that it is a 29er.

The stem was $425, so approx £265.

Not a slight on you spending a lot of money on a bike frame (its your money who am I to judge), but that fork is steel right?

How the hell does a steel fork cost $700? It makes $3k on a Ti frame look like a relative bargain quite frankly!

Beautiful frame, sure it will ride wonderfully and last a lifetime. Will never understand the price of those forks though!

Beautiful 🙂

I've been hankering after one after reading this:

http://blackmountaincycles.blogspot.com/2011/04/its-like-church-but-better.html

but the price is just too much around $3500 for the one above. I couldn't justify it even if i was turning 40!

But after contacting Enigma i can get a full custom Ti frame like the one in the blog for a much more reasonable ~£1,500 (minus the s&s)

But enjoy......

p.s - I too was wondering what the weld on the seat tube was for? Seatpost shim insert maybe??

As much as I admire the beauty and craftsmanship that have gone into this frame, I can't help thinking I'd ask him if he could leave the logo off the downtube lol.

To the OP, it is an absolutely stunning frame, nicest I have seen for a long time.

The logo on the down tube is just a decal, so potentially could be easily removed.

I haven't really worked out the spec yet to be honest.

I was probably going to go for straight XT or XTR group set with Chris King / Stans wheels; but that might change. I have already got a Ti CK headset to go on it, so that's a definate.

The weld halfway down the seat tube is a collar that has been fusion welded in place so the seat tube area is stronger.

The seat tube itself is tapered going from a .035" wall thickness to a .095" wall thickness at the top of the collar.

Is it really that expensive considering a lot of carbon full-sus frames cost over 2 grand and nearly another grand for a fork. In 5 years time the carbon frame will probably be knackered or worth F all. A custom ti bike on the other hand will fit like a glove, last years and with a heritage like this one will lose little in value. The stem, bars and post too...how nice are they? Think I would put a suspension fork on it mind, depends what you ride I suppose.
I laughed at the clueless twunks who wonder why it's got some blokes name on it and not some trademarked, made up brand name!
Anyway, fair play to the OP for knowing his onions getting something of this quality.

for the benefit of anyone who likes "old school", if you're ever in Point Reyes Station be sure to pay a visit to Black Mountain Cycles - it's full of Potts and other classic frames.

I spent a very rewarding hour or so there last summer having stumbled across it completely accidentally. The "Toby's Trucking" baseball cap in the photo in Steve's blog is for a general store just round the corner from the shop.

No updates at the mo, but I should have it built up by the end of the month.

I was waiting for the New Year sales to buy the components, but the prices seem higher now than in December.

I've been checking in on the mtbr thread. You're pretty much the same height as me and your geometry is very similar to what Steve did for me.

Can't wait to get it built up 8)

Yeah, might have a rethink about that one.

Definately 'cheaper' but I suppose it depends on what criteria is being used to class a alu or carbon stem as being 'better.'

I really wanted the finish and welds on the stem to match the frame.

You'd need the Enve tub not clincher rims, but ooh so nice.

Curious, did you not consider a one piece stem and bars from Potts, think that would have been extremely nice?

I did consider a one piece, but thought a separate bar and stem would give me more scope for making slight alterations in bar angle etc.

Not too sure about running tubs, but that is purely through my own lack of experience with them.

I like things pretty basic and simple, I still haven't made the jump to tubeless yet 😀

This is looking likely to be the final build spec.

FRAME - Potts Titanium 29er
FORK - Potts Type 2 rigid (Black)
CHAINSET - XTR trail 38/26 170mm
DERAILLEURS - XTR
SHIFTERS - XTR
CHAIN - XTR
BOTTOM BRACKET - Chris King (Silver)
CASSETTE - XTR 11-36
WHEELS - Chris King Hubs (Silver) on Enve XC carbon rims
TYRES - Still undecided????
BRAKES - XTR
HANDLEBARS - Potts Titanium
STEM - Potts Titanium
GRIPS - ESI
SEATPOST - Eriksen Titanium
SADDLE - Fizik Gobi
HEADSET - Chris King Titanium
PEDALS - XTR spd
SEAT COLLAR - Thomson (Black)

Wow! You're pulling out all the stops on this build! It's going to be a killer bike. That stem is a beauty. I might have to order one in the future. I know you're sticking with Ti, silver, and black, but maybe just a touch of color may look really nice with your build. Perhaps a set of red or green or blue King hubs? It won't be too flashy, but I think it would look really nice with everything else silver and black.

Wheels now ordered from JRA; Enve XC 29 clinchers with silver CK hubs and silver DT rev spokes.

I did think about having a splash of colour, but decided to keep it understated with the black and silver scheme.

JRA gave me discount on some Racing Ralph's, so I've sorted the tyres out as well 🙂

Everything is ordered now, so hopefully it should be built up before the month is out.

I went for an XTR race 40/28 chainset rather than the trail, but everything else is as my planned build.

Will be done by the end of the month.

Had a bit of hassle with the parts ordered from a certain large internet bike shop coming through as OEM and also some were damaged.

I ended up sending it all back for a refund and then going elsewhere for proper boxed non OEM bits.

I also had to prioritise the Crux as once my wife saw the frame, she wanted it built up ASAP; so my focus got diverted 😳
