Is it really that expensive considering a lot of carbon full-sus frames cost over 2 grand and nearly another grand for a fork. In 5 years time the carbon frame will probably be knackered or worth F all. A custom ti bike on the other hand will fit like a glove, last years and with a heritage like this one will lose little in value. The stem, bars and post too...how nice are they? Think I would put a suspension fork on it mind, depends what you ride I suppose.
I laughed at the clueless twunks who wonder why it's got some blokes name on it and not some trademarked, made up brand name!
Anyway, fair play to the OP for knowing his onions getting something of this quality.
Thanks for all the great comments ๐
I'll post a few more pics once i've got it built up.
The best looking ti frame i have seen for a long time. Enjoy
proper bike that, nice one. I'm a big advocate of running one frame and updating the bits.
Wow very nice. Re the cost, why not. You can't be buried with money. (As long as its not bought on credit I say spend as much as you want!) ๐
for the benefit of anyone who likes "old school", if you're ever in Point Reyes Station be sure to pay a visit to Black Mountain Cycles - it's full of Potts and other classic frames.
I spent a very rewarding hour or so there last summer having stumbled across it completely accidentally. The "Toby's Trucking" baseball cap in the photo in Steve's blog is for a general store just round the corner from the shop.
just found this thread. any updates?
by the gods that is lovely ๐ if i ever had that much cash for one though it would be 26" for me ๐
Congrats on the new bike! I'm expecting mine very soon, and I just stumbled across your thread hoping to see more pictures! I have a build thread started on mtbr in the 29er forum. I'd love to see how your build is progressing. Enjoy the bike!
No updates at the mo, but I should have it built up by the end of the month.
I was waiting for the New Year sales to buy the components, but the prices seem higher now than in December.

I've been checking in on the mtbr thread. You're pretty much the same height as me and your geometry is very similar to what Steve did for me.
Can't wait to get it built up 8)
Can't wait to see the build on this - would sell most of my internal organs to buy on of the monster cross bikes on black mountains blog.
Edit - just realised I said this 2 months ago - still holds true.
This is looking likely to be the final build spec.

Surely some Dugast tubs with a build list like that!
Very, very nice.
looks good to me - but do you think 38t big ring is enough? Its not going to weigh very much
Titanium bar and stem? Surely an alu or carbon one would be better and cheaper?

Hadn't even considered them, thanks for that. I think they're the tyres I saw on a Singular Ti.

Yeah, might have a rethink about that one.

Definately 'cheaper' but I suppose it depends on what criteria is being used to class a alu or carbon stem as being 'better.'
I really wanted the finish and welds on the stem to match the frame.

Lighter, stiffer, cheaper. But you're right, they dont look as nice!
You'd need the Enve tub not clincher rims, but ooh so nice.
Curious, did you not consider a one piece stem and bars from Potts, think that would have been extremely nice?

I did consider a one piece, but thought a separate bar and stem would give me more scope for making slight alterations in bar angle etc.
Not too sure about running tubs, but that is purely through my own lack of experience with them.
I like things pretty basic and simple, I still haven't made the jump to tubeless yet ๐

Wow! You're pulling out all the stops on this build! It's going to be a killer bike. That stem is a beauty. I might have to order one in the future. I know you're sticking with Ti, silver, and black, but maybe just a touch of color may look really nice with your build. Perhaps a set of red or green or blue King hubs? It won't be too flashy, but I think it would look really nice with everything else silver and black.
stunning
i would add a splash of muted pink in to the mix
hubs for example and headset
I think you've got that build list spot on, keep it understated black and silver and, DON'T LET IT OUT OF YOUR SIGHT!
Enjoy

so, this is a budget build then ๐
Wheels now ordered from JRA; Enve XC 29 clinchers with silver CK hubs and silver DT rev spokes.
I did think about having a splash of colour, but decided to keep it understated with the black and silver scheme.
JRA gave me discount on some Racing Ralph's, so I've sorted the tyres out as well ๐
Wow! That is some build kit, I can't wait to see it all assembled ๐
Pics please!
JRA have to order the rims and hubs, so it will probably be a couple of weeks before the wheels are ready.
I'll get some pics up once they're arrived.

Do I see a spoon based brake mount? Nice!
No one ever says that to me ๐ฅ
No one ever says that to me
if your spoon manipulation skills matched Mr Potts's then I suspect they might ๐
Everything is ordered now, so hopefully it should be built up before the month is out.
I went for an XTR race 40/28 chainset rather than the trail, but everything else is as my planned build.
I get some pics up once it's done ๐
amplebrew, Any updates? I just picked up my frame this past weekend, and will be finishing up the build this week. I would love to see a completed version of yours, too!
Its all very well showing pictures of Mrs. Amplebrew's bike. Is yours finished yet ๐
Need to see pictures.....
Will be done by the end of the month.
Had a bit of hassle with the parts ordered from a certain large internet bike shop coming through as OEM and also some were damaged.
I ended up sending it all back for a refund and then going elsewhere for proper boxed non OEM bits.
I also had to prioritise the Crux as once my wife saw the frame, she wanted it built up ASAP; so my focus got diverted ๐ณ
Goes off to put the kettle on, hopefully you'll have it built up buy the time it boils. ๐
Waits impatiently.......
LOL ๐
Sorry about the wait.
Your old Litespeed is still going strong! ๐
Spoilt slightly by lack of attention to detail IMO (black saddle and chainstay protector would look better and needs bar plugs).
Thanks for the advice HarYuken, saddle is the comfiest I have ever had, so will not be going anywhere...despite the vile colour scheme.

It look fantastic, love the XX chainset; matches the frame really well.
I loved the understated stickers on that frame, looks cool 8)
Finally built.......
Apologies for the photo quality, I'll get some better ones up over the weekend.

It has been a while ๐ณ
Hopefully worth the wait though!! 8)
