I have heard that there's a regular night ride that leaves the Happy Cheese in Ashurst. Can anyone tell me any more about it? Is it open to all-comers or a closed group? Looking for a regular night group to ride with.
Don't know about this, but I ride with a group that goes every week in South Hants and often from various pubs in the Forest. PM me
VD - where abouts if Fareham are you. I have been night riding with a group that goes out at 7pm every Tuesday from Fareham.
Matt
I think the group you're talking about (happy cheese) is derived from the newforce club, though I don't think it's an actual club ride
They were very welcoming when I went (about 20 rides over a year or two, but they ride every week & always was Thursdays) - used to ride from Marchwood then
Dunno if he's rejoined the forum but 40mpg is a very frequent flier with the group and posts here quite a bit
Are you fittish ?
I don't ride much generally but I found them pretty fast. I never felt like they'd ride off without me but once or twice felt I was begionning to slow the overall pace (why I don't go any more really - unless I get more riding in beforehand I don't think it'd be fair). It wasn't a massive racer-type thrash though - they used to do a bit of pubbage mid ride, esp in summer and definitely at the end
Oh, and there used to one or two other groups that were a bit further towards Winchester (one was a bit more gentle pace I think, though I've never been)

It's the Thursday night 'Vindaloo' Newforce group. Fairly fast with pub stops also. There's a 'Madras' group that rides from Winchester on the same night also. Lots of singlespeeds...
Bikey
I live in Shedfield. Ride with a bunch of middle aged but generally pretty fit other property types.
The group you are thinking of I think are the Fareham Wheelers, who ride from Wallington Social Club
I'm back!
Thursday rides from the happy cheese at Ashurst start 7pm, generally back about 10.30 as the pub is not staying open late for us at the moment 🙁 and at least one pub stop en-route. Pace is quick-ish but we are not racing/training for anything, just out for fun. Mostly as technical and muddy/rooty as we can find in the Forest. A decent set of lights is necessary.
The Newforce club also run 2 rides on a thursday from Winchester, one medium to fast, the other a more casual pace. Check the board for details.
Thanks for all the replies. Will try and get out with one of the Newforce groups soon.
