If I am buying an off the peg bike for 2K, should I expect the shop to swap the stem on it for nowt or not ? Its not that I have been told no by the shop, its just that I am picking my new bike up in a few days and would like to know what is the expected or usual thing for a bike shop to do, whether I should be able to have any stem I want or whether it is usual practice for the customer to have to pay for a non-standard issue stem.
I'd guess it depends on the shop, but I'd expect them to do a like for like swap (ie longer/shorter etc) without a problem, but if you were asking them to swap an own brand stem for a Thomson or something like that, then I wouldn't expect that to be FOC
Yes, not expecting miracles, just whether a bike shop expects a customer to ask for a straight swap out on a stem particularly if its an off the peg jobby.
A good shop will normally do stem, bar, saddle or tyres on a like for like - esp on £2K
Yeah, they shouldnt be surprised if you ask. I'm sure any 'reasonable' shop would do this. Like-for like should be foc and would expect some discount if you decide on an upgrade / something more fancy.
