What size is he after Renton?

I could do a deal on a 2nd hand remedy 9 29er if he wants a 19.5

He is 6 foot 3 mate.

I think he is ideally looking new so has warranty on it.

I will mention it to him though mate. is it a 18.5 actual 19.5 virtual

Are there any canyons around that price

How about an XL one of these :

Very tempted myself although I'm pretty sure I don't need a new bike 🙂

Wilko thats a nice bike although its got x5 and x7 gearing. is that comaprable to full deore on the trance?

Got a link to the geometry?

Not sure, think X7 is approximately equivalent to Deore. It'll be absolutely fine though, and when it finally wears out or breaks he can upgrade to whatever he wants at that point.

Geometry? Google it yourself lazybones 😉

2015 Rose Bike range are bargains and come in XL.

The standout is probably the Jimbo 1 £1370 but it is 160mm travel, you also have the the Granite Chief 150mm with Pike for £1482.

For £1500 you wont get a great spec on everything hanging from the bike, you may get full Deore and maybe a smattering of SLX but you wont get good wheels on the same bike....vice-versa you may get nice hubs/wheels but X5/Alivio running gear...at £1500 there is usually a compromise somewhere.

You could try Paul's Cycles, he does end of line stuff, i got one of the older shape Ariel 142's for £1500 and the spec was SLX throughout, Sun Ringle wheels, Raceface finishing kit etc....the compromise on that bike was Saracen discontinuing the 140mm series of bikes and focusing on their 150-160mm bikes making the bike i bought obsolete immediately.

Second hand you will get a decent bike with top spec on pretty much everything for that money....i wouldnt worry about a warranty, i've never seen a bike frame fail, i know it happens but in truth given the number of bikes out there it is rare....the LBS can rebuild wheels for a fair price, mine usually charge £10 for truing an out of shape wheel, mine will strip a bike down and fit a new groupset i've bought for less than £100....my next bike will be a DH bike and i'll be going second hand, there are just too many bargains out there to ignore at the moment!

Canyon Nerve AL or Nerve AL 29 fits your mate's requirements. Both have models just under £1500 with at least SLX.
