Finally got an Epic Evo.
Built it up last night. Hoses/cables shortened. Tonight I'll be doing the Invisiframe thing.
Never had Sram before, well not since a brief Gripshift period in the late 90s. Shifters feel nice, though the lack of trigger will take some getting used to.
I could so with a slightly longer/lower stem and in time I'll get some carbon wheels, probably the Hunt Provens.
It's 27.4lb with pedals, but there's a lot of excess weight in those wheels.
(Yes, I know the read mech cable needs finishing)

Those slabs are looking a bit green.

the lack of trigger will take some getting used to.

I bet you're over it by the end of the first ride - I was always Shimano but demoed a few Sram bikes and it felt weird for about 10 minutes, and now I only use my thumb on Shimano shifters too.

If I had the space/money I'd love to build a silly light FS bike, for those days when you just want to hammer it everywhere.

I particularly like the clean, plain look.

A nice surprise was the shock lever. All i knew was that it was "two position" so expected it to be a lockout, which I would probably never use, but it's more like a climb setting, i.e. very firm but still open. I used to use that setting all the time on the RP23 on my old Superlight.

I'll put my lighter wheels on for the Hope Marathon in a couple of weeks and that should put it well under 26lb.

That looks clean and fast. If that’s a steel sram chainring it’ll last forever but you can save a bit of weight switching to a sram alloy chainring and keep the great chain retention.

Never had Sram before

I was so convinced that I'd be swapping the SRAM on the Spesh Enduro when I got the thing back in 2019 that I even put some Shimano 12 speed on a wish list at Merlin to make it easier to find. I'm still riding the SRAM now, and I'm still pretty impressed with it, and if I changed it (I'm not looking to) the only thing I'd swap it for now would be AXS stuff

Yes, I got a very good deal indeed. In fact it was cheaper than the RRP of the similar-spec hardtail, cheaper than some used ones I'd been watching on ebay. I was planning to buy later in the year but saw the price, one in stock in my size, so pressed the button.

Annoyingly, this colour is only available in europe and australia i think, and UK gets the same colours as last year, which i really don't like, so bought from abroad. A bit scary, but it went pretty smoothly.

I too thought I'd probably end up swapping the GX for XT but I'm much less sure now. I will probably swap the chainset for GX, simply because it's a fairly heavy lump (it does have a steel ring). Definitely not a priority though.

It's basically a modern version of my old (for me) perfect bike, which was a SC Superlight, which started as an XC race bike and gradually grew a longer fork, bigger tyres, wider bars, bigger brakes...

Make sure you run pedal washers with the GX crank, don't ask me how I know...

There are 2 x GX cranks I think - alloy and carbon. Definitely pedal washers on the carbon ones. If you have a dub bb and wear the bearings out quickly I can recommend the wheels manufacturing dub replacement - it has bigger external cups so I’m assuming the bearings are a bit bigger. So far they’re still near perfect where the sram dub ones were mashed by now. I’m actually wondering whether GXP was a better standard - the Praxxis GXP bb I’ve got is also lasting well and was about 1/4 of the price of the wheels one.

I chased a couple of these around our local tracks last week. Both quick riders and they love them.

I was always Shimano but demoed a few Sram bikes and it felt weird for about 10 minutes, and now I only use my thumb on Shimano shifters too.

I've had one bike with Sram and one with Shimano for the last few years and every time I ride the Sram I miss the trigger. Bloody annoying.

Very nice, seen youre going to invisiframe, I also put some extra protection on the top tube for when the bars swing round and don't do the bolts up crazy tight on the controls.

I've ridden it a few times including 60km on Sunday at the Hope Marathon.

Loving it so far. Just a lot more confident on descents than on the little bike (100mm hardtail), very stable at speed on rough stuff, but doesn't feel too big/long on tight twisty stuff. I expected to want to switch the stem for a longer lower one, even bought an 80mm -13 in anticipation, but will stick with the stock on i think.

Pedals nicely, feels lighter than it is somehow. Really good on very technical sections of climbing.

For the sort of riding I do, and what I enjoy, I think it's going to be perfect. The main difference is that I'm just happier when riding than I was on the little bike.

Very impressed with the tyres (Ground Controls), but would like to have an alternate, lighter set of wheels, carbon, faster rolling tyres, probably Barzos. Will keep these as they are for days in the Peak, Lakes, anywhere rocky.

I put the Truetune thing in the fork, which I have found does work. With a little less sag, about 15%, I'm still reaching 90% of travel on decent sized hits. the workable range on most bumps is basically broader than without it. It makes the fork feel as though it's got a bit more travel.

The shifter and lockout lever hit the toptube but I've got a fairly neat solution to that. A clear one of these moulded to the toptube with hot water.

I got the bike from Lordgun in Italy.

I was worried, but it all went really smoothly, apart from some Fedex shenanigans. Basically, on the day scheduled for delivery, they issued themselves a new tracking number, which stated that they'd only picked it up from the dealer that day (it was already at a depot in Leeds), so i had to wait another five days.

The bike was packed and set up perfectly, just had to switch the brakes and shorten the hoses/cables. Lots of nice extras from Specialized, including several sets of frame protecting stickers, including three full length downtube sheets.

I paid VAT and import duty to Fedex, and that was fine.

Oh yes, almost forgot, it turns out i couldn't care less about it being Sram. Brakes, shifting, all perfect. In fact the drivetrain seems a fair bit quieter than Shimano, even when absolutely filthy.

Where did you order the nice white from (apologies if I missed it earlier)? Bike Inn have a yellow frame in stock which is far nicer than the stock UK colours.... I thought I was over the temptation... and pricing 😀

I got it from Lordgun in Italy.

I believe the white is only for the euro/asia/australian markets. The alternate was a matt navy blue, which i liked too.

UK/US/Canada get the same colours as last year, which i really didn't like, basically black with green, or a pseudo-bianchi pale green.

I love the white. I have a 2022 model in black. I am very interested in the Truetune thing - my one complaint is the forks are not that supple, although a decent service might work. Would you recommend it?

I was running 80psi and had about 25% sag. A full bodyweight drop on the bars got about 80mm travel from the 120mm fork, so it was ramping up fairly early in the stroke. hitting stuff hard rarely used more than about 90mm. reducing the pressure increased the sag of course, and put me in that very firm midstroke, where there's little sensitivity.

With the Truetone in, with the same pressure, the same (approximate) force on the bars got about 95mm.

I've actually increased the pressure a little, so it rides a little higher, yet seems more active on the smaller stuff.
It basically means the normal operating range, from sag to a big hit, is now about 15-95% of max, whereas before I was operating from about 25-80% of max.

Initial impressions (only done about 6 hours on it) are that it feels like a slightly longer fork.

That’s a lovely bike. If I was replacing my 5yo and heavily invested Spark now it’s what I’d buy.
