I'm guessing that this is one of those "pick 2" issues, but I'm looking for a bike rack that fits a Polo without obscuring the number plate, and which accommodates a thru axle (I looked at the rubber sucker racks but apparently they don't make an adapter for my 120mm axle). It will be mostly used for shortish runs (50 miles or so), or to ask my missus to come and get me when I'm stuck in the rain with a non-functioning bike.

Any ideas?

That's frustrating the lack of 120mm adaptors - definitely nobody churning them out via 3D printing or the like? As otherwise your described use sounds ideal for a suction rack. We keep a RockBros single bike suction rack in the boot of Mrs a11y's car for 'emergency' use, just like you describe. No worries about obscuring lights/plates etc and doesn't create drag when not in use.

Haven't found any, but I'd be very happy to be proved wrong 🙂

Hmm, it seems I was getting mixed up with axle length (120mm) and hub spacing which is 12x100mm. So I can go ahead and get a Rockbros rack and a 12x100 adapter.

Best solution we found for our rag-tag range of bikes was to buy a halfords high level boot rack and hang them all on, with a massive ratchet strap around the whole lot and through the car...

Assuming you don't have a towbar? Otherwise I may be able to help... 😊

No option to put the bike inside the car? A Polo has a lot of space with the back seats down. I use to get 2 bikes in a Fiat 500.

If you can find a Rassine suction rack they come with every fork adapter available so you're not just stuck with the 12x100 that you'll get with the Rockbros. Can carry more bikes that way.
