Recently acquired a used Cotic Soul and will be returning to HT riding after years on FS. I have a wheelset to put on which is not the toughest so I wanted to get a high volume tyre for rear that will take some abuse, was thinking of Ardent they are massive but I did not like the feel of them. The wheelset is tubeless so ideally I want to make use of that and have tougher sidewalls.

I know I have a habit of ploughing through things with lots of suspension so am trying to limit the amount of snakbites I get 🙂

Not tubeless but continental verticals are big volume, cushion well and so far up major abuse on a rigid ss that gets mistreated a lot!

The 2.4 ardent come up huge I think, I've only seen the 2.4 advantage and they're massive. I'm running a 2.5 Minion up front, it's a normal single ply but I run it tubeless and it works perfectly. You just have to get into the habit of checking your pressures fairly regularly because if it drops below about 30psi it can come off the rim.

If you want lower pressures then you could use double ply or get a proper UST tyre. I can't recommend enough staying away from LUST, they just rip in my experience, right where the bead connects to the tyre.

Very true regarding LUST my ignitor has had 2 or 3 holes where the beads connects and that is in 2 months on a bike with 140mm rear travel.
This is for a rear tyre and summer riding so ideally I am after around 2.25 max, tough and large volume.

Sorry, I read that as front. I use a singleply advantage 2.25 out back and find it to be excellence personified in rubber. Run tubeless too, it's a bit hard to inflate but if you stick with it then once the bead is on it's very durable.
