Calling osteo surgeons and neck/back specialists!!
if you've broken your neck before, it feels (to layman) like a neck brace might be a good idea, but is there any evidence?
and are Leatt any better than alpine stars or other brands? (none seem to offer evidence).
I have a leatt, it sits on my chest and back and is really comfy. I tried an Alpine stars brace and they sit on your collar bones too and it was really uncomfortable.
Like everything, it's personal choice, I know people who love the Alpine Star brace and hate the Leatt.
Ive got a Leatt. Bought it after a crash where i slid along the ground on my shoulder and head which strained my neck a bit. Its noticable that your wearing it but after 5-10min i get used to wearing/riding in a full stormtrooper outfit, i just see wearing all that as part of riding DH. Ive bashed it off a few trees now which it seems to have coped with well and one crash similar to the above where could feel the helmet push down onto it as i plowed heafirst into a berm :D. Overall im happy to be riding with it on, the positives for me outweigh the negatives.
While I think you for sharing your experiences, what I'm really interested in evidence that a neck brace actually works in a bike crash.
I understand the sales message "buy a neck brace or be paralysed in a crash", but to be honest I'd prefer to see some kind of medical opinion that these things actually work & are worthwhile.
@100mph+> it's not 'just' personal choice. this is supposed to be protective equipment, I'd like to know that it's effective and not just snake oil.
