I needed a new cable for mrs_oab's bike.

We laughed about going into see Martin at Roots Cycles and we must certainly NOT be coming out with anything more, definitely not a shiny new bike.

There was some mission creep. 🙈

All hail mrs_oab's shiny new hybrid, flat bar do it all, gravel funk, island hopping, coffee shop tootles, new bike.

Very nice. What model is it and size?

Shouldn't that front guard be clamped on the front?

Noice paint-job!! What bar bag is that? Obligatory mention of weeds, moss and need to clean the paving stones 😉

Very nice. Loving the tan walls.
Marin are killing it these days.

Quite a build up of moss on that wall. Best keep an eye on that.

Aye, shonky wall and moss is a given.

Bike is Marin DSX (base model), in small flavour. https://www.marinbikes.com/gb/bikes/family/dsx

Bar bag- Altura Transit, they were £3.99 with Klikfix mounts in a daft PlanetX sale.

Mudguards - the shop had fitted them on one of these before. The fork clearance is quite tight, and the extra couple of mm's mounting it on the rear helps. The guards are very solid, I'm impressed.

Could actually be the solution to mounting mine with 40s on the Dew. Hmm...

So presumably you’ll strip out the cables you need then sell the bike on eBay 😉

Impressive welds. That rear rack mount on the seat tube would have been better replaced with a seat clamp with mounting points. Nice colour too. Matching pedals is a nice touch.

Looks tidy.

If that's a cable outer, what does a new tyre look like?

... You really ought to pick the dead leaves out of the gravel before things get out of control.

LOL.

Marti can do that.

Really nice guy and an enthusiastic salesman.

Bontrager. They're much more solidly mounted than our existing SKS and Zefal guards

I agree the extra mount for the rack seems superfluous - but in larger frames I see why it's there.

And yes, Martin is too good at sales. That said, if anyone wants a good deal on a Marin, he's clearing out...

i like the look of the adjustment method and also like that the stays wrap around the outside of the guard rather than inside like some of the recent SKS offerings - seems much more sensible from a tyre clearance pov.

I'll look some up for my commuter rebuild. Thanks 🙂

You don't need to cut the stays either with the way they adjust.

Good effort mate!

Nice to know it's just not me that's impulsive.  I'm a bugger for buying tools as well

tubeless?

If not then change the Riddlers for something else, or buy a lot of puncture repair patches.
