[Closed] Nasty upshifts on new drivetrain - help?

Replaced worn out drivetrain, new slx cassette and rear mech. New cables. New chain I had unused from a while bck HG-72.

When shifting to a smaller sprocket the chain seems to ride on top of the teeth it is shifting to before falling onto them with a loud clunk. This then feels like a slip at the pedals.

The indexing seems ok just the chain cant find a smooth path from one sprocket to the next like it did on the old cheap SRAM sprocket/chain I had.

Any ideas? Is the older hg-72 not suitable for current kit?

Thanks,

Have you lubed the chain? They often come with a protective wax coating that feels like lube but actually makes the links stiffer.

Also check you've got a 9spd chain, not 7 or 8 (which has fatter sideplates and would not work).
