I have a shimano slx 30t narrow wide chain ring. Just tried to fit a new chain and it doesn’t work. Only lines up a few teeth and then the teeth and chain are out of line.
It’s the newer asymmetric bcd but not direct mount.
How do I tell which chain will work with it. It’s on a single speed. The chain I’m trying is a 12 speed xt one but how do I tell what chain will fit?

The cranks you have are 11spd by your description, so a 12 speed chain of the Shimano variety won't work. You can probably get away with a SRAM 12 if you want a 12 speed chain, or you can run any 11 speed.

It’s a dynasys II. Or maybe dynasys 11 then!

Yep it's Dyna-sys 11, so 11 speed.
