Great day at Llandegla today. The new natural selection blacks are pretty cool, hilariously slippy and sketchy at present, but quite a technical challenge. I’m guessing they will get a lot faster as they bed in and the mud clears…

Coupling those with sessioning some of the jump lines and playing on the big drop near the join of the black / red / blue equalled a very fun day. I’m glad they keep adding these extra bits, especially stuff that’s very different from their normal fare 🙂

FFS! We were only there last Sunday!

There’s a big drop at Degla?

Yes, at the junction above. They have spray painted some of the rocks so easy to spot. Depending on where you land on the bigger bit, it’s about 6-12 feet depending how deep you go. Pretty good landing even with the bigger drop, good job as I went far too fast off it on my second go today 🙂

I wasn't impressed with their last efforts. Some of it was a bit weird and didn't work/flow all that well.

The new natural selection blacks

My ears pricked up at that. It's what Degla badly needs, something other than hardpack! A few arse puckering signature features wouldn't go a miss either. If they are clever about it, they could make the splits so you choose off-piste type trails or hardpack sections. So you choose off-piste types trails when it's dry or split off and do the standard hardpack sections when it's wet or the mood takes you. It could be the perfect trail centre where you do a different mix of options every visit.

The biggest drop used to be the one on the seemingly always deserted freeride track. TBH it's not a big deal so some proper drops would be nice.

Isn't that what the blacks have pretty much always been?

Not really just more hardpack with slightly bigger humps and the odd bit of woodwork.

Yeah, this is the first time they’ve ever had anything even vaguely natural. The blacks in the past have always been pretty easy hard pack and not really blacks. 🙂

Must have been after a wet spell when I rode them then, my memory is steep muddy and sketchy 😂

Is there a map?
The one in OPA doesn't seem to have anything new

It’s not on the maps yet. They are just after the start of the first old black, just continue on the red for a minute or so and the entrance to the red pipeline and the two blacks are just there. 🙂

Is this that one...

I've got mixed feelings about it. It's been there for years but they've recently trimmed it, improved the landing and removed the tree from the run out.
Removing the tree is defo a good move but sad that they made the rocky bit easier.

Yes since the logging they have rebuilt Rock Drop pictured above and added a few smoother berms to the run out of of the black and red parts

It’s really nice to jump / drop off the very top, the run-off is spot on 🙂

They have now opened Natural Selection 3 and it is really rather good! Fast and flowy with berms and drops, different to the first two and quite a bit faster, great fun and apparently there are more on the way, great work 🙂

Well this is good news. I'll hold off going until they have completed it. The bits I've seen in videos look quite short but loopable via the fire road. Will have to work out which are worth doing and the ones not to bother with!
