Hiya,

I've just ordered an OnOne Whippet frame with a view to get her nicely built up in time to get racing by winter.

At the mo I've only ever raced on the road but got the itch to get into MTB a lot more at the mo.

After checking out all of the forums everywhere, it sounds like the Whippet rides well enough as 650b - but I'm a bit unsure which forks I should be looking at buying, ideally I'd like specific 650b forks for geometries sake, but they seem a little expensive....

So I had in mind Fox 32 Float 26 100 or Rockshox Recon Gold RL 100 - both within my budget.

Does this sound like absolute tosh? Does anyone know if the clearance would be alright on either of these sets? Seeking experts advice!

Thanks 🙂

Hi,

Stick with the 650b fork, otherwise it will goose the geometry of the bike.

Its a shame were a few days behind as you could have had my 650b 34 Floats, they sold for £350 and i posted them free!. My point is that if you look around there are some fairly well priced forks available. What wheels are you after?, cos i have a set of 650b Flow EXs on Novatech hubs, ex demo Ibis mojo build. they are Sram XD drive shell though.....(ok if you are going 1x11)They also have a tubless set up with tyres.......

Hiya!

Ahhhhhh damn!!!! I've just yesterday ordered some of the X-Fusion Velvets - had a good scour around online and they seemed like the best bang-for-buck for a "proper" 650b fork. They were 345 which seemed pretty reasonable.

I was actually looking at the Flow EX's for wheels!! I've stans rims on my roadie and adore them, can seem to ride them over/through anything without them batting an eyelid/spoke. Love 'em.

I've come across a spot of luck in handlebars & seatpost in that a couple of friends have some nice pro xcr stuff they don't need any more, so I've managed to cut cost AND lose weight..wehey!
