Hi,
I have a lezyne super gps, however I'd quite like something with OS style maps on the screen so I could follow gpx routes..
Any recommendations?
I've looked at a few garmins, but most seem more suited to road riding than mtb?
Ta!
I use a Garmin Oregon for MTB/road riding and walking/mountaineering. Full OS 1:50K maps, decent sized screen and it runs off AA batteries.
Garmin Edge, my 800 does the job.
The rather pricey Defender Android phone has an option with 1:10k,1:25k, 1:50k OS maps. https://www.memory-map.co.uk/android-gps-tx4-os-gb-platinum-edition
Garmin Edge 810 does the job but expensive I paid £220 for it but it's good at recording rides, navigation, ride statistics while riding.
I do all mountain biking no Road ever.
I've used paper OS maps in the past. I always wanted one of the old Satmap units but they were absolutely massive so for years I used a little garmin for tracking and following a breadcrumb trail, plus an OS map/printout if I wanted to do a little more exploring or for backup.
Last few months I've switched to using the OS maps app (others are available, this one let me claim digital versions of paper maps I already had) alongside the breadcrumb trail on the garmin. Does the lezyne do breadcrumb?
Actually started after using the French OS equivalent app in (unsurprisingly) France last summer- following a river would have meant crossing quite a few maps whereas the app had a nice sensible fee for a short subscription. Nice and easy to check the phone for 'general' directions occasionally while otherwise following your nose, the screen is bigger than you tend to get on bike computers and it's one less electronic gadget I have to keep up with.
Downside is potential battery management for longer trips, admittedly, but the idea is not to use it all the time.
Garmin Oregon and Openmtb maps. Used in UK, Corsica, Slovenia and France. Work well, clear, easier reading and easier zoonming than OS, in my experience. And considerably more free.
