MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Is there any way to shift the base resistance, so that zwift is in any way useable with a mountain bike?
I used my hardtail on a Kickr Core and used a road cassette and shoved a 36t ring on the front and found it okay for me.
I already have a 36t chainring, and I don't see how a road cassette would help.
But I have found the solution, to go into the wahoo app and adjust the wheel size on the trainer. I went to 2.5m and I think maybe 2.7 or 3m might be even better. Not sure if this is remembered after powering off either.
It is crap that zwift don't have a better way of incorporating mountain bikes, there appears to be thousands of requests to do so.
Obviously it will depend on what virtual terrain gradients you are riding, but have you played with "trainer difficulty" setting in Zwift?
Iirc, lower than the default 50% will mean you are less likely to run out of typical mtb drivetrain gears on downhill sections.
The reason I used a road cassette is I found the close ratio's much better suited for Zwift.
I had a 38T oval on my cross bike on zwift for ages, was dishing out historic sprints on it - no need for any wheel size shenanigans, adjust trainer difficulty to a lowish number like 20% as nobodythegoat says.
adjust trainer difficulty in zwift, this is basically like changing out the cassette range virtually
