I fully expect mocking but I can't figure this out...
In an effort to get rid of the pack, but not risk stranding when on local rides I bought this:

Having never used co2 before, I thought it best to learn in the comfort of my home, with a cuppa, but can't figure out how it works...
If I blow through the tool (either way) it goes straight through no issues...
So I attach the tool to the bike tyre, screw of the cartridge and... nothing happens...
I take the whole assembly off the tyre, still nothing.
There doesn't appear to be any release valve or anything on the tool.
Unscrewing the cartridge shows it was pierced...
Blowing through the tool again, air goes straight through, so I was expecting to screw the cartridge on, and it to fill the tyre...
I can't find any instructions for the thing online...
So, having prepared myself for mocking, what am I missing?
cant help o this tool, but i recently bought a very similar air adaptor thing, which looks like its the same. Ive not tried to use it, but would need to test it out at home as i cant figure out how it works either.
Got a twisty top thing, and until the cartridge is on, i'll not know if it's locked or open.
it's really something which does not need to be re-invented to make life more difficult.
have you taken the red collar thing off the cartridge so it can screw far enough in for the seal to be pierced?
Make sure you remove the plastic tube from the neck of the air can - Its only purpose is to stop you accidentally setting off the canister...
A very scary noise would let you know whether the CO2 canister had been fully pierced!
Yep, no plastic tube, no collar, when canister unscrewed all co2 rushes out of pierced cartridge...

It may be that you need to screw the cartridge all the way in to pierce it, then back it off slightly for the CO2 to be able to escape. That is, the point piercing the cartridge probably blocks the hole it just made.

The bulb would get very cold if it was actually getting pierced.

As ghill said. so you are doing almost everything right but to actually release the gas back the cartridge out 1/4 to 1/2 a turn, you will have no doubt it has worked.
