MIPS or not MIPS

I’m pretty sceptical, but most decent helmets have it these days. So I’ve ended up with it by default. Doesn’t do any harm so why not?

Only potential downside is the extra layer can apparently make the helmet feel hotter, but I don't notice. I've got two Lazer Coyote helmets: one MIPS, one KinetiCore (Lazer's own way to achieve the same benefit as MIPS but supposed to be cooler). I don't notice any difference between the two.

I just got a MIPS helmet from Decathlon for £45. It's comfortable, fits well, seems well made. What's not too like. 

Mine has an ever so slight squeak to it (MET Roam). Not sure if it's a MIPS issue or just this lid but it was cheap, looks cool and fits well.

As @a11y I've got a Lazer Coyote with Kineticore protection instead of MIPS , feels nice and cool without that extra band and that protection has won 5 star rating from Virginia Tech which I have no intention of willingly putting to the test , wife has just bought one as well , about £60 .

I suspect that it's mostly marketing over substance, but as the price differential is small, I'd just go with whatever helmet I fancied.

I bought the Lazer Coyote also. Really like it. The Virgina Tech rating matters more to me than MIPS or not. But I do confess, if I saw a helmet from a recognised brand like MET or Giro at the right price, I’d assume they wouldn’t sell an unsafe helmet.

If you like the helmet model anyway then IMO a few extra quid is worth a bit more peace of mind. A helmet that is comfortable and sits well is top priority, but the Virginia tech tests tend to rate mips lids better than non mips.

I had a helmet with MIPs it was too hot for me and then I broke it....replaced with non mips...no idea if it's worth the extra heat but it's a no from me

Not sure if they’re still on offer but Sport Pursuit had some Cannondale MTB helmets on offer recently at very good prices. Not sure there were many road ones though?

When I commented earlier about not noticing a difference in coolness between MIPS and Kineticore version of this helmet, I didn't even think to mention I always wear a half-buff folded over as a sweat-catching headband. Definitely negates any assessment of coolness (in both senses...).

I have an Endura MIPS helmet and I've not noticed it being any hotter. Would I put it at the top of the list if I was buying a helmet, not really but then you only get to know if it's really worth when you crash and smack your head.

I've had a crash in a MIPS helmet (on the road, slid out in a corner) - and I think the MIPS layer probably did save me from a worse injury. I definitely felt that it rotated and reduced the impact. I'm not rushing to replace non-MIPS helmets, but probably any future helmet I buy will have a MIPS layer.

Decision made, found a nice enough Decathlon lid with MIPS for under £70. That'll do nicely.

I don't think it really matters, MIPS is kind of an incidental feature now, Comfort and fit matter more IMO I wouldn't reject any helmet for having or omitting MIPS TBH...

MIPS has turned into Hoover of safety names.  There are other anti-twist (or whatever it is) tech out there -LEATT have the Turbine 360 - all of them are designed to stop the rotational force, but in a different way.  One argument aginst MIPS is that some baldys have apparantly had the mips slice into their head on impact -though gawd knows how common that would be.
