built up a road bike recently but can't get on with standard drops , even bought some 48cm nitto noodles as i like a wide grip . I've realized that it's the wrist position I don't really like so thought i'd try some midge bars . well initial impressions are that they really are way more comfy HOWEVER I'm a little disappointed by how short the hooks reach back at the bottom. Just wondered why they were designed like this as a bit more extension would seem to be a big improvement both for comfort and stability/safety.
As a result I'm after some ragley Luxy bars as they look as though they'd solve this issue and offer even greater width . can anyone suggest any other options or offer any advice .
thanks in advance
Bill

Hi, i have a pair of salsa woodchippers which have massive ones! they are 31.8, 46cm too so nice and wide. cost me £55 new and although built and with the usual fitting marks, are otherwise new and unridden! £40 and they are yours.... I used a different pair of these on one of my old CX bikes and they areamazing, nice, wide and very stable especially of road. sold the salsa fargo they were on before it ever got ridden.

I quite like them short, I've got bar-end shifters and the short hooks mean I don't have to move my hands around as much.

No idea if this is the reason why they're designed like that though.

agree with nedrapier, I also use bar end shifters and find they're ideal as I can 'flick' the shifter with my finger whilst still being able to brake

are you using stis or going ss, either way the luxys or woodchippers do have a much longer extension

using campag ergos but can see the advantage if running bar end shifters.
JRTG ...might be interested but kind of vying towards the luxys at the moment.

Because that's how Shiggy said he wanted them.
