for a mate '1 looking for a first hartail, anyone any idea if th e19 would be big enough for 6'1?

anything else out therehat would beat this for general getting into mountian biking?

The Malt 1 looks like a bargain and it's a good bike too. I'm 5'10" and ride a 17.5" (2004) frame. I'd imagine the 19" frame would be ok for you but I'd email Merlin and check.

yes 19" perfect for your mate I'm 6ft 2" and fitted me fine.

great bike for starting out

I had a Malt 1 a few years ago and it came up quite big, so I suspect it would be Ok for him - it certainly won't be so small that a bit of stem and saddle/seatpost adjustement couldn't put right.
