i am on the look out for a saddle and whilst browsing the entire internet for one i noticed a fair few reviews from men on ladies saddles. Are ladies saddles vastly different as they dont look it on the pictures or is it purely a marketing thing? Does anyone gents here ride a ladies saddle and if so,why?

yes  - because I sometimes borrow her bike I dont notice any difference* but she massively prefers it over male saddles - she  sometimes borrows my bikes

* disclaimer i am not at all fussy about saddles and have a solid roadie one on my SS an once bought  a bike an then rode 150 miles on a saddle I had only sat on once in a shop

Just wear ladies shorts and you’ll fit the saddle perfectly. 😉

I aren’t looking to purchase a ladies saddle but i was just curious as to how they differ and why it seems some men are riding with them?

I am sure there are probably some women’s saddles which are just the “mens” version with a flash of pink, but there are definitely proper female specific saddles.

you may have noticed but men and women have some significant anatomical differences in the saddle area, so it completely makes sense to design the geometry of the weight bearing points differently.  The interesting thing is, as the makers of feminine hygiene products are keen to point out no two women are engineered the same “down there” so the idea that one size would fit any woman is flawed.  I assume male geometry is also not as uniform as might at first be thought and so some men may actually find some women’s saddles more comfortable too.

Poly - to be honest most of the saddles i saw were plain black or white and the only indication that it was for ladies was in the title. I saw one saddle which did say woman on the side but that was it. I guess it might be hard to see in the pictures but even the shape and profile looked no different to the mens.

because women generally have wider sit bones and different "bits" ladies saddles tend to be designed wider in the rear and shorter in the nose for comfort

like all saddles that are very much a personal choice it doesn't mean a women's saddle will only be comfortable for women, or that all women will find them suitable. i've known quite a few males that happily ride a "ladies" saddle and enough women that ride "mens" saddles

If the bones don't fit to the saddle biking will turn quickly into a nightmare.

I bike WTB Volt saddles. They are available in three sizes - no women / men versions so (I think at least).

You simply have to pick the correct size...

Same as Junkyard, I can ride my wife's bike but she hates my seats.

I also have a couple of pairs of ladies gloves which I find very comfy...

You do realise that men riding a woman's saddle will make you impotent, don't you?

So if that doesn't bother you, crack on...

I have a ladies' Selle SMP on my road bike

It's exactly the same as the boys' one apart from pink stitching and the word "lady" written on it

... oh, yeah, and 50 quid cheaper

Women's saddles can be detrimental for men. This explains why...

Or this could happen to you....

@epicyclo - that second vid is a bit of an eye opener, had to have a lie down after that.

I know. A chap would just hate to have that happen to him.

Especially in lycra... 🙂

I am guessing then that the male reviews were men commenting on behalf of there ladies for saddles they had bought them. Or you lot are too embarrassed to say you ride with a ladies saddle.
