Currently running sgs (long cage) slx rear derailleur but looking at a clutch mech for my 2x10 with 11-36 cassette and
26-38 chainring. Would a medium cage be ok ?

A medium will be ok for a 2x10, just make sure the mech will go up to a 36 on the cassette.

Chain length...it'll either be too long or too short so either extreme is unlikely to work...

No probs for me with that gear set up and a gs mech. Get the full spread off the 38.

No problems with my 2X10 on the medium cage XT plus. Just make sure the chain length is setup correctly.

I forget the numbers but the medium mech capacity is two links under what you'll have with the 36/38, that said I am runnning the same setup and just made sure I allowed two links in big/big when fitting the chain.

On full suss you may also need to allow for chain length growth through the suspension stroke. Or not depending on the design.
